Tejada is close to returning to action, and some say he might be back on Friday against the Yankees.

If he is, he'd have four days to show he's healthy before the deadline. If he's back, he's a risky option.

He was hitting 306/360/423 before going on the DL which would be a marked improvement over the production we've been getting from shortstop. But, he's coming back from a broken wrist, and sometimes those injuries can nag.

Tejada also comes with a high price tag in terms of players to acquire him and in terms of dollars left on his contract- two more years at 13 million a piece.

However, he's been a Hendry target in the past and makes sense now.

Would the Orioles deal him? They certainly don't have to. He's not an impending FA, but it might be wise to get something for him while they can.

What would it cost?

The Cubs could offer a starting pitcher like Gallagher or Veal and then add to the package. Veal + Murton + Cedeno might intrigue the Orioles.

If the price is right and Tejada looks healthy this weekend, he might be the target that best suits the Cubs' needs.

look at Lee's power drop off after a broken wrist, and we're over a year later....

It's a risk...but it's one I'd be willing to take.

Depends on the cost, really.

I'm with you. I haven't even thought about it because I was under the impression that he was going to be out for a much longer time. However, if he does come back this weekend and shows more or less the same power as before, then I hope Jim sends them who it takes to get it done(minus Pie).

I'd rather have Griffey. Tejead's coming back quickly from a wrist injury and in terms of what it would take to get him player wise I would much rather see the Cubs take a shot on a guy like Griffey staying healthy. On a side note I don't want to block Arod coming here next year as a free agent.

If they don't get Griffey, and I don't think they will, I'd love to see Hendry move in on Tejada. You can platoon Fontenot/Theriot at 2nd while giving Tejada some time off at SS, and you can go with a permanent OF of Soriano-Jones-DeRosa.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago:

My roommate's cousin is a partial owner of the Orioles. We went had dinner with him and he was talking about how Tejada is available for an near-ready or MLB-ready prospect position player and an MLB-ready SP. We threw some names at him but he really wouldn't budge/speculate for us.

Also, he confirmed that there was a Prior-for-Tejada deal on the table and it was ultimately vetoed because Baltimore ownership was concerned about Prior's durability. (go figure)

Thanks for the info. FWIW, I thought it was Bedard/Tejada for Prior/Pie. Hrumph.
