When I saw the Cubs play the Nats in DC last year, there was a mini-armada of Trixies trying to get Cedeno's attention while he was stretching and warming up on the field. This was the 2nd game of the series, so maybe his partying ways were paying off with the bat-chasers on the road, too.

Cedeno has been pushed faster than almost any prospect the Cubs have had in recent years. He was in AA at the ripe age of 21 and AAA and the majors at 22-23. His "bunch of time"(600 ab's or so, basically 1 full ML season) was under a jackass of a manager who applauded free swinging, and not walking. It would be really foolish to form a definite opinion on Cedeno based on 600 ab's in the ML's at the age of 23.

So, it wasn't a case of him just hitting journeymen AAA pitchers. He was solid in AA at 21.

Yes, he was playing above his age-appropriate level, but he put up OPS of under .600 3 years in a row before AA. He had a good year in AA, and has been good ever since, but he struggles to take a walk and for some reason has had problems with errors even though he obviously has talent with the glove.

 

I'm not saying he can't be a great SS in the future. I'm just not that excited about having him up on the Big Club this year. I'd rather he just get called up in September.
