The Cubs also moved Wade Miller up to Iowa so he can waste a roster space there.

Hendry probably still thinks there is still a potential taker for Wade in the next few weeks.

Wonder if Dempster would close today if the opportunity arises

Lou said he would.

Len said that Demp would only be used today in an emergency. If necessary, Howry will close today but Dempster will resume his role tomorrow.

He can come mow my lawn, as long as the Cubs pay for him to do so.

Also, he has to sign a waiver.

You know you just want him to give you a rub down.

Good plan (and of course the insurance the Cubs got in the 8th made it a moot point anyway). If Dempster pitched today that would have been two days in a row and three of the last four, which may have made him unavailable tomorrow.

Cubs need to get off this LOOGY obession. Get rid of Eyre...I'm sure Gallagher or some other righty can manage to fair better against lefites vs. Mr. ADD

wow, making jokes about chemical imbalances. at least you were clever abou... oh wait, it wasn't clever either. your post had nearly formed a whole point for once, then that. good job.

Does anybody know what day Sean will pitch in Iowa? I'm taking my son to the game on Sunday, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I don't know for sure, but he threw those 4 innings on Wednesday, so normal rest for him would be Monday. However, he only threw 55 pitches, and IIRC the Iowa rotation has been in shreds somewhat, so you may luck out.

From what I have been told Sean will most likely start tuesday........

Well, there you have it. Look for him on Tuesday!

Arggh! No offense to the rest of the pitching staff in Iowa, but it would have been nice to see a future Cubs pitcher.

Do you know whether Sean will be with the team in Iowa on Sunday?

How is Sean taking all this back and forth from Chicago to Iowa? It's got to be tough.

Sounds like you don't have a lot of respect for yourself if you are saying things like that.

I talked with Sean last night and he will fly to Iowa today. He was a little down after throwing such a good outing the other day but realizes in the long run that this is whats best for him. I can only imagine that it has to be tough being a starter and than going to the bull-pen and waiting for the phone to ring. I do know he had a good talk with the coaching staff about what he is to work on and hopefully this will be his Slider. I can only expect that you will see him again sometime this year helping the Cubs.

I would hope Sean takes all of this as a very positive experience. He was not on track for the big leagues in 2007; he was in high-A at the start of last year! But even though I'm sure the Cubs know that his upside is as a starter, and that development gets temporarily sidetracked with the trips to Chicago, he gets to see the big leagues for a taste of what he's working towards, that has to be incredible motivation.

And he gets a big league save out of the experience to put on his resume, and in a roundabout way, earned himself a promotion from AA to AAA before midseason 2007. I'd say his progress is excellent! From high-A to AAA in one year is really moving quickly.

And to top it off, Sean has likely put himself in the depth chart as the #7 or #8 starter for the big league Cubs, not bad!

And finally, check out the Cubs team stats to-date: Gallagher leads the team in OBP.... :P

I hope there was no misunderstanding in anything that I said about Sean. He has enjoyed every minute of being with the Big Club this year and has also been every bit the learning experience for him. I think the first time he was called up he was a bit overwhelmed and got caught in the moment. He tried to be a pitcher he wasn't meaning a more finesse pitcher than what you saw the other day.

This has been a crazy year but to say the least and being promoted to the Cubs was never expected this year to say the least. We had never even thought about the invite to ST but this showed Sean how much the Cubs thought of him. If you had asked me before this year began, I would've expected Sean to pitch half this season in AA and the finish out the year in AAA. Sean has been what some people call on the fast track witihn the Cubs organization and he has handled everything that he has been asked to do.

What I meant by him being a little disappointed is here you have a 21yr old who since being called back-up his 2nd time has pitched well. I think he showed everyone the other day that he is close to stepping into the rotation. I would think that it be only natural for him to be disappointed considering the team is playing well and he would like to stay and be a part of it. He also understands that in the big picture his future with the Cubs is as a starter and he needs to throw innings to get stretched out to help this team later in the season. He needs to go to AAA to get his slider back and have another pitch to show these hitters.

This season has been unbelivable to say the least and Sean knows that he will be back with the team this season and we were lucky to have him home over the All-Star break. He has learned so much this season being able to be brought up by the cubs and work and talk with the pitchers and the coaching staff that my Wife and I couldn't get him to shut-up!! I was just happy to be sitting there listening to him and thinking back as he was talking to all my memories of him playing baseball.

His disappointment in natural. You don't get the majors without that kind of desire and heart. Any player worth his salt who gets the call is going to want to stay up there.

I think his future is in the rotation, so in a way, I'm glad that he's disappointed. I think it means he'll work hard in AAA to make it back -- only this time as a starter, rather than the 11th or 12th man in bullpen.

I know you said earlier that Sean was back throwing his slider, but is this just while hes with the ML club, or are they allowing him to throw it in Iowa also? I would think they'd want him throwing it down there to get the feel completley back, but they could also be worried with the injury concerns regarding a slider.

Agreed. I also think the Cubs are going to need another starter -- spot starter if nothing else -- and I'd like him to be in the postition to fill that role instead of getting inconsistent appearances as the long guy in the BP.
