As long as he doesn't end up 1-6, I'll be okay.

This is today's winning post. PM your address and I'll get the Tom Goodwin card sent to you.

What was this in reference to?

HAHAHAHA!!!

Somebody said that Bonds was 0-5 against Ohman coming into that AB which lead to my statement.

As for the card, I'll have to pass, vance. You can give it to somebody else or put it back into the options. And just take me out of the running altogether - picking up baseball cards just isn't my thing.

The typical cub fan in me says this team will not keep winning with this current roster. In all seriousness we need some help in the OF. in a pennant race Jake Fox is not the answer. Hendry is going to have to find us a bat to protect Ramirez. CF or SS would be ideal if not someone with more pop than Floyd in RF is needed.

Tomorrow's game has a bad matchup with Marquis and Webb. Hopefully we can keep this offense chugging away...

We're gonna blow this game. Book it.

good call.

That really gets under your skin, doesn't it. Sorry dude, I say what I feel. It was looking real bad at the time. So I was wrong, I'm a big boy I can take it. Can you?

Clearly it's your skin, I'm getting under.

I'm happy our team won. And contrary to earlier this year, even if we're losing by one in the 8th, I think we're gonna win. Think what you want, I just thought it was a good call.

Never underestimate the overwhelming power of good, solid pessimism among the fan base of a professional sports franchise.

I start with pessimism then move towards hope (where I am now) and end in heart crushing defeat (2003 NLCS, 2007 Superbowl). Nothing like getting your heart torn out after an extended period of hope.

But in all honesty, I don't think this team is gonna play many more games that they SHOULD win. It's gonna happen from time to time, but I don't expect it anymore. And that's a DAMN good feeling.

we'll get help from the Giants this weekend. Look at the pitching matchups...

Lowry vs Suppan

Lincecum vs Bush

Zito vs Vargas

All 3 are in SF's favor and hoping that Barry doesn't homer in the first game then the Giants can definitely help us out while we deal with Webb, Owings, and Petit.

Arizona's numbers against Marquis don't look as good as I thought they might-of course, they haven't faced him much, and Hudson and Jackson do have 1 home run each. Byrnes and Tracy, the two Diamondbacks that have faced Marquis the most, are a combined 1-20 against him with 3 BB's.

The other side doesn't look good at all. Ward has a triple and a HR against Webb, but he might be out. Lee is suspended. Aramis is only 4/18 with 1 HR against him. Floyd is only 4/15. DeRosa is only 1/9. It's going to be really tough to score runs against Webb-the Cubs have to be patient and try to score runs off the Diamondbacks bullpen.

How so? You were the one who jumped all over me. Why all the "stop posting like that" nonsense if everything's hunky-dory? You don't think I'm glad we won? That's silly. I'm clearly not the same kind of fan you are, and you have trouble dealing with that. So be it.

It goes back into it. I'm not going to re-draw winners. My guess, is a lot of people will pass which helps me in having enough in case this team runs off a whole bunch of wins.

You might win again....whatever the random sequence says becomes the winning post.

I hear what you're saying but part of me says 'why not?" I know Jake Fox isn't some blue chip prospect but it seems like other teams (like the Braves) bring up guys, who aren't sensational, to help them win. Ultimately, the Cubs may need to trade for a bat but Jake Fox might be able to hit ML pitching (his problem has been defense).

I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Hey everyone, the Cubs won. Let's all take a deep breath. Relax. And now enjoy the 'W' flag.

I'm hoping Marquis pulls a surprise party and pitches well (like he did to help us win that Brewers series). The good thing is the D'Backs have a bad offense. I know they are at or near the bottom in hitting with RISP.

"The Cubs win......but everyone is talking about Barry Bonds"

NOT

  yeah right. They are always kissing his butt.

They lost, we won and that's all that really matters.

CHASING AAAAAARON: Bonds homers twice moving him to 753!!!!!! One was off Ted Lilly and the other off Will Ohman - BOTH OFF LEFTIES!!!!!!!!!!! 753 puts him 2 behind AAAARON! The first HR snapped an 0-21. Oh, the Cubs won 9-8, or something.

Bonds: "I was hoping they would throw those home run balls back like they said they would but they lied."

I gotta hand it to him, that's a nicely sarcastic comment.

I'd like to know who "they" are, and when "they" said it, and "where". He creates lies just to BE an egotistic moron.

Who's stupid enough to throw one back anyway? It can net you a brand new car, maybe 2 brand new cars, plus tax, plus insurance for 2 years.

I'm not so sure that Lincecum-Bush andn Zito-Vargas are in the Giants favor. And unfortunately, the Giants also have to put up their piss-poor starting lineup against the Brewers pitchers, whereas the Giants pitchers actually have to face hitters that can do something productive at the plate.

FYI, Bruce Levine says that the injury to Ward could be serious enough to jeopardize most of the remaining season for him. He may be DL'd tomorrow.

Ouch. If it's a serious injury that's a decent loss for the Cubs. Ward has been a very dependable bat for the team so far. The Cubs do have options to use the spot on the 25 man roster effectively, which will certainly help make sure that it is as minimal of loss as possible.
