Going off of the weather.com hourly forecast, it says 30% chance of precipitation throughout the evening, and at 6pm it switches its description from mostly cloudy to isolated t-storms. If thunder and lightning weren't in the mix, I'd be fairly confident about getting this game in tonight, but I'm not so sure right now.

Truffle? anyone else? thoughts?

accuweather.com (which I trust way more than weather.com*) says T-storms at 5pm moving towards mostly cloudy by the 6 o'clock hour

* prior to my trip to Europe this past April, weather.com said it would rain 5 of the 7 days, while accuweather.com said it wouldn't rain at all. We barely saw a cloud the entire trip

Kendall will go 4-4 tonight with 1 HR and 2 doubles.

And I will win the lottery AND get struck by lightning in the same night.

Let's get another one.

Any guess on what Lou's gonna do with CF and RF tonite? Overall Order?

Pagan in CF, Derosa in RF. Fontenot at 2nd/Theriot SS. Seems like Lou has no place for Izturis per Bruce Levine interview on Silvy/Waddle this am on ESPN1000.

I think it's pretty obvious at this point Izturis will be a goner soon. Thankfully.

According to an official with another team, the Cubs are gauging interest in shortstop Cesar Izturis. The Cubs are happy with Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot and have Ronny Cedeno at Triple-A, so moving Izturis wouldn't be a shocker.

The only shocker would be that another team wanted his services.

Oh, and didn't Izzy try to give ARam a shocker in the dugout a few weeks ago?

He definitely was giving him more than he wanted I'm sure.

Here's hoping Cesar is traded to Stl where he and Edmonds can work the toxins out of each others' muscle tissues.

I was reading shocker euphemisms. Had me laughing out loud.

Speaking of shockers. Did anyone think last off-season that Marshall would be going up against Zito. And we'd feel comfortable that we could easily win that game? Now now. Try to think back to what you would have thought then. .

Such questions are too taxing. To quote Vance, "Just win bitches." :D

Just a note, Fontenot is hitting .156/.156/.156 in July in 32 ABs. Hopefully the Cubs exercise the same patience that Theriot was given when he cooled off.

Theriot was .224/.272/.276 in June and now is hitting .455/.526/.667 in July

It's either Fontenot or Izturis in the lineup and if I had to choose it's best we leave izturis on the bench. DeRosa is a must to start and so is Theriot at this point in time. Against a lefty I don't see Ward and the oftinjured Floyd start in RF.

Game Notes

LATE INNING HEROICS: The Cubs won their fourth game in-a-row as Aramis Ramirez’ 2-run double with 2 outs in the eighth inning led Chicago to a 3-2 win over San Francisco last night … Chicago tonight looks to improve to 6-games over .500 for the first time since June 11, 2005 when the club was 33-27 after a 7-6 win over Wade Miller and Red Sox at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs have gone 16-4 over their last 20 games and their 26-12 (.684) record since June 3 ranks first in the majors … the Mariners rank second in baseball with a 25-13 record (.658) while the Brewers are the closest N.L. team with a 21-15 mark (.583) in that span.

Today marks the fifth game of a 10-game homestand against Houston (3-0), San Francisco (1-0) and Arizona (3 games).

The Cubs are 3.0 games back of the Dodgers, who lead the N.L. Wildcard race … Chicago is 3.5 games behind the N.L. Central-leading

HANDLING THE CLOSE ONES: The Cubs have won their last 5 games decided by 1 run, including a 7-6 victory vs. Houston in which they erased a 5-run deficit on Sunday and a 3-2, come-from-behind win last night vs. the Giants … after starting the season 2-12 in 1-run decisions, the team has gone 10-3 in those contests since June 7.

Overall, the Cubs are 12-15 in 1-run games and 9-8 in contests decided by 2 runs.

LEFT VS. RIGHT: Chicago, 9-14 against left-handed starters this year, is slated to face lefty Barry Zito tonight … the Cubs are 1-3 in their last 4 games against lefthanders, but 4-3 against them since June 15 …

Chicago has gone 39-29 against right-handed starters, including a current 8-game winning streak against them dating to July 1 … since June 23, the Cubs are 13-1 against right-handed starters.

On the season, the Cubs are batting .277 (677-for-2440) against right-handed pitchers, compared to a .247 average (188-for-760) against left-handed hurlers.

WELCOME, MR. KENDALL: The Cubs yesterday acquired catcher Jason Kendall and a cash consideration from Oakland in exchange for catcher Rob Bowen and minor league lefty Jerry Blevins … Kendall, who played with Pittsburgh from 1996-2004, owns a .305 career batting average (624-for-2043) against N.L. Central clubs.

Kendall owns a .279 (50-for-179) career batting average at the Friendly Confines.

More from the game notes...

BE AGGRESSIVE … B-E AGGRESSIVE: The Cubs have belted 19 home runs on the first pitch of an at-bat this season, the most long balls they’ve hit on any count this season … last night, Koyie Hill put the Cubs on the board with a first-pitch homer in the third inning off Tim Lincecum … dating to June 29, 4 of the Cubs last 6 home runs have come on the first pitch.

Chicago’s second most popular count to homer on has been the 1-0 count … the Cubs have hit 15 homers in that situation.

THE CUBS AND BARRY: Barry Bonds has homered in each of his last 2 games against the Cubs, September 2-3, 2006 at Wrigley Field, after Chicago pitching had gone 11 straight games without giving up a Bonds long ball dating to April 30, 2003.

Bonds owns a .247 career batting average (195-for-788) and a .372 on-base percentage against the Cubs, marking his lowest numbers against any National League team.

In addition, Bonds’ .491 slugging percentage vs. the Cubs is his lowest against any National League club.

PLAYING AT THE FRIENDLY CONFINES: Chicago is 13-4 (.765) over its last 17 home games beginning June 11 vs. Houston … this follows a 1-5 homestand against Florida (0-3) and Atlanta (1-2), May 28-June 2, which put the Cubs home record at 11-17 up to that point … Chicago, 24-21 at Wrigley Field in 2007, went 36-45 (.444) at Wrigley Field in 2006.

The Cubs, who last night won the opening game of this 4-game series vs. the Giants, are 10-2-2 in series in which they’ve won the first game of a set
