From Rotoworld:

Roy Oswalt told the Houston Chronicle he would waive his no-trade clause if a move would be better for the Astros' future.

Oswalt is due $58 million from 2008-2011, and his contract includes a $16 million option for 2012 with a $2 million buyout. The Mets are believed to be the team most interested in making a push for Oswalt's services, but the Red Sox and Yankees would surely love to have him, too.

Any interest?

I'm not saying I want him . . but if he didn't have to pitch against us anymore, he'd quickly improve his numbers (**points to today's scoreboard**) Edited by Springfield_CUBBY

His k/9 has been declining every year since hes come into the league. His stuff has been diminishing, and he no longer ace starter IMO, but hes getting payed like one.

if roy oswalt isn't an ace, then there really aren't many aces left in baseball

For whatever reason, 4/5ths of the Astros' rotation is doing markedly better at home this season than on the road.

I'm curious about these particular splits. Only Jennings has done better on the road than at home, while everyone else has noticeably better K rates, BB rates, and ERAs at home than on the road. Have the Astros just played more difficult teams on the road or what?

If that's the case, then maybe Oswalt's numbers this season might be a bit deceiving. I'm guessing the Cubs would have trouble matching teams like the Yankees and Red Sox in terms of prospects, but still, he's an acquisition who might be worth looking into.

He's the best pitcher on that astros team, but he's not a top tier pitcher this year. Maybe this is just a down year for him, and I'll eat my words, but he isn't dominating like he used to.

While I would love to get Oswalt, he won't come cheap. He's signed through 2011 with a club option for 2012. My guess is that the Astros have no interest in trading him. Drayton McClain loves him like a son.

Here is his salaries for those seasons: 08:$13M, 09:$14M, 10:$15M, 11:$16M.

That's very reasonable for a pitcher of his caliber. My guess is that teams would be lining up to get him.

It would cost some of the very best we have. One of Hill or Marshall, then add one of Veal or Gallagher, then add Cedeno, and a couple more prospects and I'm still not sure it would be enough.

I was reading a similar thread, and some Braves fans were willing to part with Salty, Escobar, and Harrison or Reyes for him. We couldn't match that package if we tried.

All that being said, he would be a great acquisition. Today's start notwithstanding, Oswalt is a legitimate ace.

I'd take Oswalt in a long term deal over Zambrano in a heartbeat. But yeah, we'd have to pay out the butt to get him. As far as teams that would be interested, the Angels and Red Sox have the most to offer, though if the Yankees are willing to put in Philip Hughes, they'd have a strong starting point for a deal. Our minor league system just isn't good enough to get a deal done, unless we pretty much give away every prospect we have, plus Hill, Marshall and/or Marmol.

There's no way the Astros would trade Oswalt to us. I don't see them trading him in the first place, but if they did it would definitely not be to a division rival.

Buccholz+ for Oswalt.

It's a win-win move for both organizations. The Astros aren't going anywhere for awhile and the Red Sox don't want to wait for Buccholz to produce at the ML level.

Wasn't Oswalt the guy who said he was planning on retiring at 31, 32 years old a few years back? I thought there was some sort of article about him in SI...

That's what I thought too, unless he's commented about it since then.
