scott boras says he'll be getting 30 million per with his new deal he signs.

Zero chance cubs give Arod $30 mil a year. I hate boras.

Uh, don't shoot the messenger. In today's market and with ARod's abilities I think you or I could get him $30 million per.

I agree some team will probably give him that much. I just said that the cubs won't be that team.

IMO A-Rod is doing the right thing by waiting. He has NY right where he wants them, for once. I think he stays in NY. He is a guy who never wants to say the wrong thing and always tries to do the right thing for his image. Ironically enough, that's why many NYY fans hate him. Even more ironic, it's why they love Jeter. What a bunch of idiots.

They love Jeter because of the rings.

Do you guys think that ARod will get 30mil per year? I think that's a crazy amount of money to give to one player even of ARod's caliber.
I think the chances are pretty good. Especially if he resigns with the Yankees. They are already getting 33 million from the Rangers for ARod.

I've heard that if he opts out though they lose that money. I don't know if that's is true just what I heard on the radio.

I'm sure that is the case; I was about to post the same thing. If he opts out that voids the remainder of the contract and the Rangers are off the hook.

Yeah. That's why the Yankees wanted an extension before he opts out. I've also heard the Yankees have said if he opts out, then they will not get involved in the bidding for him.

If he signs an extension with the Yankees, or is traded and signs an extension, then possibly. But if he opts out, and the Rangers money goes away, I think it's less likely. If you signed ARod to a 5/150 extension while he's on his current deal, you'd actually be paying much less than $30m per year, due to Texas taking on $21m.

LOL, yeah Texas is still paying for him. Ouch.

To be honest, it looks like there's little chance A-Rod will stay. They'd be silly not to trade him.

I wouldn't say little chance. It's possible he's made up his mind about staying. But the Yankees have the ability to pay more than anybody else, plus they have Texas's money. If they think they can't sign him though, they've got to make a trade.

A-rod has already stated that he isn't willing to negotiate during the season and the Yankees stated that if he doesn't sign before end of season they won't join a "bidding war". Would there be a bidding war for his services? the 30mil a year is just staggering and what teams really could afford this. I see the Yankees as being the only team maybe committing that amount of money for him. You have team like the angels and others who payrolls are already around 110 mil and if A-rod were to get hurt you would have 1/3 of your entire teams salary sitting on the bench. It will be interesting to see how this plays out since I think the Yankees have backed him into a corner. Remember the Yankees also don't want him to opt out of his current contract as they have the Rangers paying a good portion of it.

If the Yankees trade ARod would the new team have the right to sign him to an extension and keep the Texas money? If so that increases his trade value if you can wrap up the extension at the same time as the trade.

I am assuming yes, Texas remains on the hook in the event of a trade and non-opt out. But I'm not certain.

I would think that Texas money would still be there for the remainder of his current contract until that extension kicks in.

Ben Maller has some interesting "rumors" about A-Rod

I don't know about how credible he is (i'm assuming not very), but well here you go:

The Yankees have a message for Alex Rodriguez: sign an extension before opting out of your contract, or don't sign with us at all. A source told the Daily News that the Bombers have made it clear to A-Rod and his agent, Scott Boras, that they have no intention in taking part in a free-agent bidding war for the two-time American League MVP, and that if he chooses to opt out of his current contract and open the bidding to the rest of baseball, his days in pinstripes will be over. Rodriguez has until 10 days after the World Series - Nov.10 at the latest - to opt out of the contract. -- NY Daily News

Sources around baseball don't believe that the Angels - considered by many to be the frontrunner if A-Rod opts out - will give him the money he wants. One source said that neither Angels manager Mike Scioscia nor GM Bill Stoneman is pushing to add Rodriguez. It is also unclear whether the Cubs, White Sox or Dodgers would pony up the $180 million-to-$240 million it likely will take to land A-Rod, so the market could be a tough one without the Yankees involved. -- NY Daily News

Cubs Pres.: We want to keep Zambrano

Cubs president John McDonough asked if he expects any movement on the Carlos Zambrano contract-extension talks? "Jim (Hendry) has a great relationship with (agent) Barry Praver. They speak once or twice a week. We've said this before: We'd like to see Carlos be a part of our future. I think discussions will continue, and we'd like to see something happen. Hopefully it will." -- Daily Herald

It's not a matter of Ben Maller being reliable, all he does is link to newspapers like just about every other rumor site you're going to find. There's a link with each one.

I just wonder how much money there would be to spend if we sign Carlos to that long-term extension he wants.

Tons if you'd count the value of the Cubs TV rights that the Trib is pocketing right now.
