I love that the Cubs send down a decent bullpen arm instead of DFA'ing the crap like Eyre or Izturis.

I guess they wanted a true long man for the next 3 games. Since Dempster is going to be back on Sunday anyway, Gallagher is just being brought up in case one of the starters bomb early.

Gallagher looked awful, Petrick was fantastic. This makes a lot of sense.

It was just in 5 2/3 innings. The Cubs didn't just demote K-rod or anything. Just getting a fresh arm up for the final few games before the break.

It's not surprising. With the short pen, we're going to see lots of this. They will shuffle guys back and forth to make sure they have a couple of fresh arms out there. Since Petrick is the one with options, he's going to be the one shuttled back and forth the most.

Sean is up to likely get us through the weekend. Then, after the break Dempster is probably going to ready to come off the DL. At that point, Sean will go back down. My guess is Jim is hoping to move some of the dead weight by then as well.

Jones only? Or have there been rumblings that Jim isn't happy with Eyre/Izzy?

i agree leaving him alone is best but we really need someone who can eat some innings in case marshall bombs. Hill and Marshall need the rest. Petrick will be able to come back July 14th, 2nd game back (10 days). Looks as if zambrano will start sunday and friday. Giving everyone the rest they need. Z is on a roll and will gladly take the ball. Hill and Marshall will get probably 10-12 days off apiece with the all star break

If you want a fresh arm to take to the break, fine. Just stop treating Gallagher like some AAAA journeyman. When you move him, move him to stay.

Shouldn't Gallagher only be moved up to stay if it's as a starter?

That's the only thing that concerns me. I don't really care if they shuffle bullpen arms every 2 days-who is it really hurting? I hope this is the last time for Gallagher though before he is up for good. Find another long man that you can bring up during blowouts (or use Cotts when he comes back up from the DL-bringing him up and down won't make much difference to his development, and a long man is only mainly supposed to pitch in blowouts anyway).

Man, I hope this shuffling ends soon.

It's Hendry. It's never going to end with him.

He needs a different hobby for when he's bored.

I'm not really concerned about Gallagher, as he has not proven he is anything but a garbage time pitcher (at least at this point).

This shuffling is really unfair to Petrick who has shown he can get out major league hitters.

I really don't know where to begin with this....

Thank you for that comment. You are full of positive reinforcement.

What was the point of stretching him out for two starts in Iowa? This is ridiculous.
