I know the Cubs have been terrible against left hand pitching in the past. Today is another one of those performances. I was just curious if anyone could post the Cubs record vs. left handers this year.

Also, in the past, I understand that the Cubs have not had a batting practice lefty. Has that changed this year?

Give Chico credit, he located well, changed speeds, and kept them off balance with two diff. FBs, curve and change.

He's the type of pitcher that will give the Cubs' hitters fits.

Wow the Cubs lost a game and now they're terrible. Yay they're what? 10-2 over their last 12. Come on they're not the Globetrotters.

Nobody in this thread said they are terrible because they lost a game. Terrible against left handed pitching, yes, but not as a whole.

I think the somewhat hidden point was even the best teams in baseball WILL get shutout. The timing of asking how they are against left handers after one loss after many wins just annoys me (him). Ask it if they do this four or five more times in the next 2 weeks.

The streak we're in right now is without a doubt the best we've had all year. I'm excited what I'm seeing these past two weeks. With that said, we've had a problem the last few years with left-handed pitching. And we get skunked today by a left handed pitcher. Nothing wrong with simply asking a question about how the Cubs have done against LHP this year. I by no means am implying that the Cubs suck because they got shutout by a LHP.

But given their past, I don't think the question is at all out of line.

Baseball is littered with RH hitting corner outfielders who can hit LHers real well. Several can be had for less than 2 million a year. The Cubs instead got Cliff Floyd who was redundant to what the team already had.

The team thought they already had their RH hitting corner outfielder who could hit LH's real well. It hasn't worked out too well so far.

if people are expecting an offense with pagan/pie in cf, theriot/izturis at ss, fontenot at 2b, bowen/hill at catcher, and floyd in rf to score runs at the pace they have over the past couple weeks, they are going to be very disappointed.

I posted this in the gamethread:

I think some of it is flukey. The Cubs are near the bottom both in facing LHP and production against LHP. Plus, they faced some hot pitching lefties like Chico today (0 R), Capuano (2 R) before he got hurt, Buehrle (2 R, in a victory), Hamels (2 R), and Gorzelanny (1 R, in a victory). Conversely, they scored 6 against Jeff Francis.

20+ ABs vs. LHP:

Ram .370

DLee .321

Sori .290

DeRo .286

Riot .286

Fonty .286

Angel .224

Jones .200

Izzy .182

Pie .125

Others:

Barrett .262 42 ABs

Cliff .250 16 ABs

Hank .067 15 ABs

Bowen .000 11 ABs

Everyone else has less than 10 at-bats versus LHP.

Its not just Lefties but lefties and starters we havent seen before. I'll say it again, either our advance scouting sucks or our players don't know how to prepare for guys they havent seen before.
