latest Score update mentioned Jones probably on his way out to 1 of 3 teams and Cubs will likely pay for most of his salary.

Did it mention which team is most likely?

Nope, just said 1 of 3 teams. I'm listening to the score right now if I hear anything new I will def post it.

Quite frankly, I'd be happy to hear that Hendry's willing to bite the bullet and pay the salary. Maybe if we're lucky we can get a serviceable lefty reliever.

That's alot of salary to eat (assuming it includes '08 as well).

I think they probably figure at this point they were gonna have to pay him either way, so maybe they figure it's a sunk cost. At least in a trade they may get something back for that.

Not really. He gets 5-6 mil next year, and is only owed a few mil more for this year. That said, I don't see much point in moving him if we have to pay his salary and still get nothing back. All that gives us is a roster spot. I'd almost rather see him rot on the bench, the way he has been for the past week or so.

8 mil is alot to eat, especially on a team that likely won't increase payroll and more likely to decrease it. I'd rather see them take on an additional salary of a disappointing yet somewhat expensive for this year that expires at the end of this year. 6 mil. could be close to some of the more expensive players on some smaller yet equally productive payrolls.

Wouldn't the easiest solution(assuming you can't finalize a trade by tonight) be to DFA him. Gives you a 10 day window to make the trade, and since there are supposedly 3 teams interested, they're not likely to lower their already meager offers to wait it out til he's a FA.

It may come to that, but such a move would cripple whatever meager leverage he has left.

Plus we'd eat all of his salary instead of "most of it"

The latest score update said Jones and his agent have said that they have not heard anything about the trade and that Jones would be leaving soon to join the team at Wrigley. So much for that..

And when he gets there, hopefully Lou will say...

"All of you still on the Cubs' 25 man roster step fwd...not so fast, Jones!!!"

That means absolutely nothing. There's nothing saying he can't be traded after he's at the ballpark. Wouldn't he have to go there anyway to clean out his locker?

I specifically recall the Jose Hernandez trade where he showed up to hear the Cubs had traded him to the Pirates, and the cameras showed his Cubs cleats sitting on the top of the trash can ... (right underneath his talent) Oohhh burn.

The Score is reporting that Demp is most likely headed to the DL.

Bring up Matt Murton!

No, why? This would make room for Billy Petrick.

I was assuming Jones trade made room for Petrick...
