If Hendry can dump Jones by the end of the day, and actually get a living breathing human being in return not named Neifi Perez or Jose Macias, I won't make fun of him for a whole week.

Isn't that the guy who gave him a backloaded 3/16 deal? If you don't make fun of him for a week, I'll pick up the slack.

The whole Jacque signing is contingent on this trade. If Hendry manages to get a decent player and/or relief from the contract, then the signing goes in the books as a decent one, possibly even a pretty good one. If he can't and Jacque continues to be a liability on this team and the Cubs keep paying his contract, the signing can quickly become a bad one, even with him being a pretty decent bargain last year.

It already is a bad one. He can make it less bad by getting rid of him.

To go further, I will even consider it a job well done if he were to aquire Neifi Perez or Jose Macias. Macias obviously would be making league minimum and would be a quick DFA. At least Neifi is only signed through this year.

Jacque, for anything including nothing, is a win in my book...

It is bad this year. Last year, he gave us above average production for a very reasonable salary. I don't think 2 1/2 months of poor production completely destroys that if he and his contract are traded soon. I'd call it a wash.

It was a bad signing regardless of what he provided in 2006.

In terms of looking at the signing from a 2005 perspective, Hendry gave him at least one too many years. It wasn't going to be the contract that killed us, but it didn't bring in a particularly talented player and guaranteed him 3 years, so from that perspective, yes, it was a bad signing.

From the perspective of final results of the contract, if we can trade him, I'd say Hendry got lucky on a bad contract and made it a wash.

you could, but who else di we miss out on while Jones was plaugging RF?

Props to Hendry, however, for realizing his mistake.

Cesar Izturis is still on the roster.

Did he realize it, or did he yield to pressure from the fans, media, and his manager?

I'm giving about 90/10 odds that this is a bunch of noise over nothing, and tomorrow, next week and next month, the three bums who need to go (Izturis, Eyre, Jones) are still wasting space on this team. Nobody wants these losers, nobody's going to give up a "decent prospect" for them, and Jim Hendry isn't going to eat the bulk of their salaries to make them be gone.

Maybe I'm being optimistic, but there's been so much noise about this something tells me Hendry has at least one or more deals on the table.

Maybe I'm just being wishful....

Ok, yeah...I'm just being wishful.

"Tell you what - you give me Jacque Jones, pay his entire salary this year and next, and give me a couple of live arms from your farm system. Then, we'll go out back, I'll kick you in the nuts and we'll call it a day."

"Deal!"

Still nothing done yet, huh? I expect there will be some move made today whether it's a trade or someone's sent down to make room for another pitcher. I'm hoping Jones and Izturis are on their way out, but I'm not too hopeful about either one of them being traded anytime soon.

Nope, there is nothing yet. There is going to be a roster move today, that's been pretty confirmed, so the fact that they haven't done it yet does at least suggest that management hopes there will be a trade to clear space before the game. It will just have to be seen if they get one done or not.

My guess would be Pagan. They said they want a 12th pitcher. It'd be too simple to get rid of Jones or Izzy. Fontenot's been red-hot, and Theriot has done his job (plus the squeeze bunt is helping him). Pagan has made baserunning errors and Derosa could be the 5th outfielder.

Out of all the people that can be demoted, I think Theriot is on the hot seat (but the Cubs would prefer to trade Jones to make room). I don't see Pagan going because Lou views him as the best late inning defensive RF replacement. Pie isn't going down, even though he's struggled offensively, because he makes an impact defensively. Plus, Fontenot is red hot and has now supplanted Theriot and DeRosa as the starting 2B. That leaves the opening at SS and Izturis can't be optioned to AAA.

Are we certain Iztruis doesn't have options?

I'm not certain, but I'd bet he's accrued enough service time to have the right to refuse the assignment. I don't know what they use to determine that, but he's played in 700+ games.

He doesn't have any options - and as OBPMatters? said, it doesn't matter since he's accrued enough service time to refuse assignment.

That would mean that Izzy is our only SS. Izzy starting every day = ](*,)

I'm looking at the list of players with options on TCR and Izturis isn't listed. Theriot, Pagan and Pie all have 2.

The page was created in Spring Training.

Ideally, it would be a 10 day situation; after which time Theriot could be recalled.
