Brad Clipp, who was demoted from Peoria, is starting for Mesa today. It's only 97 degrees at game time.

I wish Peoria would give me a reason to go tonight.

Mateo not good enough? Hernandez and Renshaw are the most (only?) interesting guys on the team and they pitched each of the last two days.

I've seen Peoria a handful of times between Beloit and Kane Cty, Mateo and their pos. players just isn't enough to get me out of dinner.

I don't blame you.

Peoria and Daytona are really devoid of prospect, it's kind of scary.

Larry Suarez just made his pro debut coming out of the pen. He gave up a run in an inning on 2 hits and a walk while racking up 2 Ks.

He is one of the guys in the lower minors I am going to keep an eye on consistantly. I heard he has great potential. the sky could be the limit for him......

Jesse Estrada, not Scot Taylor, is pitching for Daytona. Looks like Taylor was officially bumped from the rotation.

Rough debut for Suarez.

And Raisin, from now on, spell out Nelson Perez's name. Don't abbreviate it like that...

You could just refer to him as The Nelson.

Agreed. The first time I saw that, a chill ran down my spine. It's just too soon... the scars have not healed.

haha, I had meant to make a comment about seeing N. Perez in a box score yesterday but never got around to it. It's definitely not a good thing to see at any level.

Patterson had a single to CF, Ronny a bunt single.... Murton seems to be showing a nice approach (5 BB, 2 K) so far. It's nice seeing him in there every day too... hopefully this gives him back his confidence and rhythm, and the Cubs actually realize that they had a good young player all along.

Coats singles in two, it's now 3-0 I-Cobs. No Soto in the lineup tonight :x

Coats homers to right after a Murton walk, it's now 7-0. Chris George is getting beaten up on; Iowa is 7-14 as a team with one walk, and Patterson didn't miss a homer by much either. Top of the lineup (Patterson, Cedeno, Hoffpauir, Murton, Coats) is 7-9 with a walk, plus all the runs and RBI.

went to the game tonight (last night too) - and I have to tell you, the Chiefs have looked pretty darn good over those couple of days. Tonight, I thought Mateo looked *much* better than when we saw him in Peoria a few weeks ago. No more shaking his hand/lower arm, so probably more comfortable. He's getting there...but, when he hit the wall, he had a tough time getting things across. Definitely progress, though.

Tonight's most exciting play was in the top of the 9th - with 2 outs Camp got on then stole 2nd and took 3rd uncontested. Mota brought him in with a single to tie things up. I hadn't seen that kind of energy from the team in quite a while (April, maybe?) so I hope they see the 2nd half as a new beginning.

Defensively, both Lansford and Malone had great fielding plays tonight too - Lansford continues to impress me at 3rd for sure.

Nelson Perez strikes out swinging.

Jovan Rosa singles on a fly ball to right fielder Astin Jacobo. Luke Sommer scores. Carlos Perez out at home on the throw, right fielder Astin Jacobo to catcher Salvador Perez. Nelson Perez to 2nd.

If this weren't the Cubs, I'd hope that just meant he was on his way to Chicago.

Kyler Burke went 0/3 with a K in his debut in the Cubs system after coming over from the Padres in the Barrett trade.

20-year old Johnny Mota is putting together a solid season at Peoria - 151 AB: .278/.375/.371/.746.
