OK the point of this thread is so everybody who keeps saying "Soto is hurt, thats why the Cubs havent called him up". Soto has been starting at catcher the past week, and needs called up. Koyie Hill is not the answer to anything at our catcher position. Bring him up, and let Bowen and him split time so we can go into next year knowing what we have in Soto.

I agree about hill not being the answer and soto being better. What's going on with jake fox?

Jake Fox has struggled defensively at C and has been playing the corner OF and 1B positions much more.

Koyie Hill was called up 2 days before Soto went to his 1B/DH duties, so Soto was healthy when Hill was added to the 40-man and called up. But Hill is out of options, so the Cubs can't just send him back to Iowa. He'd have to pass through outright waivers and, even if no team claims him on waivers, he still has the chance to become a free agent.

Jake Fox is not the answer at catcher. He is bad bad bad defensively at C.

I like Fox, a lot. But from what I have heard Fox is not a strong defensive catcher.

If Barrett was bad back there, I think Fox might be worse.

If Fox makes the team, it's going to be as a OF/3b/1b/C utility type player.

I've watched Jake catch several times -- he's not THAT bad. He's fairly mobile back there and guns down a good number of runners.

He just has a nasty habit of dropping pitches. Including fastball strikes upon occasion.

It's a small thing. :D

Just a thought -

If we bring Geovany Soto up, we will have three catchers on the roster. If you want to send Koyie Hill down, he has no options left, would have to pass through waivers, and can leave as a free agent if he is not claimed. It's not too smart to get rid of one of our catchers when we've traded one away and another is about to have season-ending surgery.

So once again, Hendry has his hands tied by his own dumbass moves.

I don't see how this is a problem.
