I think it is time to send Theriot down to get some work (after Aramis returns, don't want Izturis in the lineup every day). His sub .650 OPS is hideous, and he just isn't a good hitter right now. Is there anyone down in AAA we can call up to replace Theriot for a bit while he tries to get his bat going again? I'm perfectly fine with a MI of DeRosa and Fontenot. Edited by Butterscup

Congrats to Ryan Theriot. The scouts have finally taken notice. He has to adjust. If he can't, then, yes, he should be just a utility player or work on his game at AAA.

there's nothing to take notice of or adjust to. he does not have the talent to be a starter in the major leagues. he was riding a massive hot streak at the beginning of the year, nothing more, nothing less.

:cough: Bo Hart :cough:

Not suggesting bringing him up... just suggesting that he and Theriot are quite similar... Good players until people realized how to pitch to them.

Time to bring up EPatt and ride that hot streak.

Right now, bringing up another guy who plays 2B won't help very much-they need somebody who can bring some offense to the SS position.

And just yesterday I got word from Wriglievillesports/Cubword.com that the Ryan Theriot jersey's were in.

Guess they'll be marked down.

They might as well bring up Cedeno and let him take another crack at the SS position, and leave Fontenot at 2nd till his bat cools off, with Derosa getting time in RF and at 2nd. Use Theriot as a utility guy, but right now, Cedeno is our best SS in the entire system.

I was at the game last Thursday and stopped in and picked up a shirt. They had an entire section dedicated to the Theriot with his authentic game jersey. I ddn't see the road one, but it was probably around somewhere.

Cedeno items were on clearance. Might need to jump back on that bandwagon.

If they bring Cedeño back up, he better start regularly. Otherwise, I'd leave his .975 OPS at AAA.

And Theriot is a utility guy, this shouldn't be a surprise.

Well, it isn't as if the Cubs have a better option at the moment. Theriot is still *slightly* better than Izturis, but really those are the only 2 choices we have at SS. Moving Fontenot there would really be an experiment as I don't think he's ever played there in his minor league career.

I don't think the pieces the Cubs have in their system will be enough to salvage the offense this season, and probably next season as well. It's going to take a trade for an impact bat at SS or RF, and I doubt the Cubs can clear enough salary to make room for someone without pretty well guaranteeing themselves the loss of Zambrano to FA.

EDIT: And what has happened to Theriot could just as easily happen to Fontenot. He comes up, starts out hot, then they figure out how to pitch him, and he ends up looking very bad.

Ronny Cedeno says hi. Bring him up and start him regularly.

Agreed. Let Cedeno play everyday and see if last year was a fluke(or just cause of Baker) or see if this year is a fluke. Ronny wouldnt be the first player to suck horribly, and then go down and come back up to be an average player. Right now Cedeno has more upside than any other option.

That would work if you sent down Theriot. I'd rather see Izturis gone though.

Cedeno seems to have found his offense at Iowa again, and is showing good patience. If that translates into the majors, that's great, but we've seen Ronny for over a year in MLB and you wonder if he's not the same as Theriot, a guy that's just good enough to tear up AAA pitching but not good enough to hit everyday against MLB pitching. Only way to find out is to bring him up and play him. I hope the Cubs will be smart or desperate enough to try it.

I gave up on Theriot in my fantasy leagues a little while ago. I had a feeling his hot streak wouldn't hold up (but I was really hoping it would). And his steals cooled off as well, making him utterly useless in my leagues.

I think Cedeno deserves another shot. He's hitting too well down there to not bring him up eventually. My only fear is that he might be a AAAA player, much like Jason Dubois. Good in AAA, bad in the majors. I'd wait for Ramirez to come back before we move anyone up though.

I admit I liked Theriot more than I probably should have right away, but I do believe he has talent and can play everyday on this team. If he doesn't adjust soon, he'll be done...although I dont' think he's the reason this team is losing. He didn't help with his 6 men left on, but we can't give up 6 runs a game and expect to win.
