Hopefully he keeps hitting with the promotion...I see him as a Mark Kotsay type, nothing special, but a solid guy capable of contributing on pretty much any team, especially when he's making league minimum.

He certainly doesn't have the plate discipline and BB/K numbers that Kotsay does - but the power, hitting and defense sure remind me of Kotsay.

This isn't surprising, there have been rumbings about him (along with Atkins and Kroeger who's at AA) being promoted. I think his poor BB/K ratio is going to hurt him at AA - hopefully he'll adjust.

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, is this a normal pace or a bit fast?

Also, do we expect his average to take a bit hit in AA?

I'm no expert either but I believe this isn't particularly fast paced for a college hitter out of bigger conference like Colvin was.

But it is still pretty impressive for someone as raw as he is in his first full pro season. He has glaring weaknesses, but as RHIAB points out, he's more likely to fix his plate discipline issues after he's tested at higher levels.

Perhaps that could be an interesting side effect, but in an organization so devoid of any real concentration on patience, I doubt that's the motivation.

I find this really odd considering he's not even dominating his current league. It would be one thing if he was hitting .380 or something ridiculous and knocking HRs left and right, making it unrealistic for him to try and be patient. But he's barely hitting .300, ranking 13th in the league, and is just 12th in OPS. He's still just 21.

Pushing him to AA this early, with just about 500 professional at bats, having already skipped low A (after starting in short season ball), seems incredibly aggressive. You'd have to think they believe he's worthy of a 2008 call-up if he's going to AA now.

Josh Kroeger and Geoffrey Jones to AAA Iowa, Colvin will take Kroeger's spot at Tennessee.

all of a sudden, the OF is crowded in Iowa... Murton has to play every day, then there's Coats, Kroeger and Walker, plus Hoffpauir plays some OF as well. Hopefully Soto can catch most of the time, so the lineup can go something like:

2B Patterson

SS Cedeno

1B Hoffpauir

RF Murton

LF Kroeger

C Soto

CF Coats

3B Moore

Very, very deep lineup in Iowa this year. If the Cubs return Gallagher there, the I-Cobs should win their division without much trouble.

I like how Colvin was moved up despite a poor grasp of the strike zone, but the Cubs left Eric Patterson at Lansing for almost all of his first year in the system. And who can forget Rich Hill dominating AAA for way too long last year. wtg cobs.

Looks like Jim Henderson will be coming down from Iowa to AA Tennessee to replace Jones.

I agree that it was too soon for Colvin.

Kroeger leaves the Southern League leading all 4 batting categories:

AVG .382 leads 2nd by .047

OBP .449 leads 2nd by .006

SLG .609 leads 2nd by .066

OPS 1.058 leads 2nd by .116

=D> :hail:

Yeah maybe it should really read "Kroeger promoted to AAA". Coresponding moves Colvin to AA, etc.

I wanted to confirm Kroeger was promoted from a print media site before I edited the title - Kroeger defintiely deserves sharing the subject title with Colvin.

With Kroeger and Murton at AAA, EPatt is all but stuck at second base.
