I would be willing to bet that the Orioles win 90 games before the Cubs do now that Girardi is around and they are going to have to make a HUGE free agent splash because they are losing fans to the Nationals and their new stadium opening next year.

I hate the Cubs...and Lou Piniella.

Joe has said no to the O's.

I am guessing they would not give him an out clause to go to the Yanks.

If he asked for one, they are better off. They should be able to demand 100% devotion to the franchise. This isn't small conference college football.

He is an idiot. Should have taken the job.

Why? I think its a very unattractive job.

Isn't a characteristic of a good manager going into a mess of a situation and turing things around? I thing he(Girardi) turns alot of folks off with the whole "Waiting for the Yankee's job" thing.

Most good managers don't go into real bad situations, and the O's are just that.

Girardi said this winter that he didn't want to be a part of a "rebuilding" team, and that's exactly where the Orioles are going to be here soon...

He already did his "tour" with the marlins and their $15million payroll... he wants to be a manager for a team that actually WANTS to win.

Gammons just said that MacPhail loves Dusty and speculates that he will be approached for the O's job.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/21/AR2007062100998.html

Earlier today, new Orioles President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail and former Chicago Cubs Manager Dusty Baker spoke informally regarding the Orioles' managerial position, according to Baker. Now an analyst for ESPN, Baker said the job is "probably not the right fit right now," but did not completely rule out becoming a candidate.

BTW, I love this quote from the above link. If this isn't typical Dusty, I don't know what is...

"For me to get into the interview, my interview was my last four years with the Cubs," Baker said. "Why should I get an interview when I was with the Cubs [under MacPhail]? We agreed upon that."

Well I'm guessing the Andy is on the phone with Don Baylor right now.

Well there's this from Jayson Stark, which directly contradicts the Washington Post article I linked to above:

Don't be surprised if the Orioles add Don Baylor to their managerial-interview list. But Dusty Baker was never a candidate for that list. Every indication is that MacPhail thought Baker wasn't the right fit for this team.

Reunited 'cause it's understood,

There's one perfect thing and baby this one is it,

We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited hey-hey.

So is MacPhail making all the personal calls now? Is there a GM in place?

Here is a tip Andy so you don't screw this up.

Call Chris Antonetti, offer him the GM job, and stay the hell away from the team...every baseball instinct you ever had, was wrong.

So, I guess the question is who is the more reliable source? I'll go with Gammons, but then again I'm hoping he is right because I would really love to see them hire Baker so I can watch him manage a team I have no allegiance to.

ah hah haha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

• Life with Peter Angelos, Part 1: True story: The Orioles' entire baseball-operations department first heard about Angelos' decision to hire Andy MacPhail when they read Buster Olney's story on ESPN.com. Seriously.

What a great organization. Seriously, who wouldnt want to work there? And to think they are in last place....
