Jimbo should start the proceedings with an offer of Howry and Jones for Dunn

Keep the Gooz if possible

Someone will have to explain to me sometime what is so special about the ever-injured Guzman. He's Prior/Wood without the major league success.

Just curious why we need Dunn and where exactly would he play?

C Pie

1B Ramirez

2B Floyd

3B Soriano

SS Dunn

LF Izturis

CF Lee

RF Ward

?????

You'll have to excuse me, I've been up all night and my sense of humor may be a little off...

Seriously, I'd put him in right. Floyd may be hitting ~ 300 and taking a few walks, but that extra 166 points of SLG that Dunn would provide looks damn tasty. Floyd can pinch hit. Murton's not an uninteresting player but there's no chance he's worth passing up Dunn for, Jones sucks, and Pagan is crap.

Dunn is a butcher in left field and would be a nightmare in right..We have no room for him.

I see you've been here since just after the choke job in '04. Surely, then, you've seen the 17,000 debates we've had about this kind of thing, and the 12,000 debates that applied this reasoning specifically to Dunn. The disagreement we're having isn't a disagreement about Dunn's attributes but rather the value of different baseball skills in general. My view is that an OF who posts a .565 SLG and a solid OBP can hop around on a pogo stick out there if he wants to. Clearly, you have a different view.

I've always enjoyed reading Stark as well.

Personally, I believe the "Cubs can't take on salary" part of this thread more than anything else.

And Rosenthal backed it up in an article today. ARG. I don't know what more frustrating, incompetent management or this pending sale.

Why in perdition would Hendry say his bosses would allow him to take on salary when reports indicate the contrary? Don't tell lies, Jim.....

I think they could get Bradley without taking on salary.

I agree, and I'd prefer him to Griffey (based on not having to give up Marshall).

As I mentioned earlier, Stark was on ESPN and said there is nothing to all of this. Mentions what many have speculated that the Cubs are in no position to take on any extra salary right now.

Lets forget about it..

I agree. Those guys are always right.

Remember when we got all worked up over Nomar and then Peter Gammons came on and said, right before the trade deadline, that there was absolutely no chance Nomar became a cub? ESPN was right then, and they are right now.

Oh wait...

I love the pervading attitude that all of the writers don't know crap, especially if they work for ESPN. I've always found Stark to be pretty good, I'm sure he has researched this and has better sources than a message board.

I'm just reporting what the man said. I never claimed they were infallible, but maybe they just might know what they are talking about.

And Gammons isn't a bad reporter either, but they dont always know everything. You said "let's forget about it" and I'm just saying that just because he says its not being talked about, that doesnt mean its not. Hendry is notorious for holding his cards pretty close.

Didn't ESPN also report Maddux signed with the Yankees and even threw up a graphic of Maddux in a Yankees uni on the front page before he signed with the Cubs? I had heard about that, but did not see it.

Also, I like Stark and Gammons. Everyone else is meh

Yep. Exactly my point.

I'm not a big fan of stark, But that's beside the point. The fact is people get things like this wrong and to say "lets just forget about it" because a writer on an inconsistent network says so is fool hearted. Especially when you have other sources saying that Griffey wants to be a cub. We have no way of knowing what hendry is actually going to do because he has always been very secretive about his trade-deadline activities.
