I'd have to say Lilly. He already has 4 average or above seasons in the book (I'm counting his 98 ERA+ as an average), and if Marshall hits a cold streak this year, who knows if he'll be even allowed to start in 5 years for a major league squad. Lilly also could put up more good years over the next 4 when he will continue to get to start. I like Marshall's potential, but I believe the answer has to be Lilly right now.

I'm not sure why Marshall hasn't gotten more love from Cubs fans. He's been a pretty solid performer for an end of the rotation guy.

His numbers so far this year are really good. I dont knock him but he doesnt have that "wow factor" in his stuff. That doesnt mean he wont be good because a lot of good pitchers dont have the wow factor either. He changes speeds pretty well and is getting his curve over for a strike. Im very impressed so far and his K rate is whats so encouraging. Maybe he really has turned the corner in being a major leaguer. He had a really rough start in AA but came around the next year, could be doing it again but this time in the bigs. Im getting kinda excited about him.

I don't know either. He was one of our best pitching prospects before last year. He skipped AAA and just wasn't ready.

His ceiling is Rich Hill, not Ted Lilly.

I like Marshall a lot and think he's going to have a good career but I would say Rich Hill has a higher ceiling. Marshall has much more sink on his pitches so he shouldn't have the HR problems that Lilly does. In the end, Marshall could have a better career than Lilly but he has to stay away frmo the injuries.

Marshall has had 3 good starts after stinking all last season. I'll take Lilly. I think Marshall's ceiling is about where Ted Lilly already is at.

I was joking about the CY's for Marshall. I hope he has a great career b/c he's a Cub, but I wouldn't necessarily predict great things. But we're not really tearing him down for not being great in his first year in the majors, are we? The kid was 23 for all but 1 month of last season. When Lilly was 23 he made 9 starts in the majors (for Montreal - and with worse numbers than Marshall last year).

I have no idea who will end up with the better career, but if you're saying that Marshall's ceiling is sub-4.00 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, roughly 8 Ks/9, and 4.3 K/BB ratio (Lilly's stats today per Y!, which is better than he's been his entire career except his 100 IP for NYY and OAK in '02) - where do I sign?
