Cubs at 127: SS Darwin Barney, Oregon State

Didn't Q hate this guy? I seem to recall him talking about Barney having slow feet and not good reactions.

Or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else...

No clue, I don't think I talked to Q about an OSU guys.

To make matters worse, everything I've heard about Barney is that he's a defensive guy only. Another Izzy on our hands..

The fun thing is, this system is littered with crappy hitting defensive-minded shortstops in the making. Barney will fit right in!

I think a lot of this draft just has to do with the unfortunate scenario that the Trib is selling the cubs and there is no buyer yet...I liked the picks of Vitters and Thomas, I saw Barney play this year and he is very smooth defensively but hsi bat is definitely behind his glove, and as for picking a catcher I would have really preferred Barney's teammate Mitch Canham

russell to the cards

suck

Hope his demands plus the quicker signing deadline is too much.

The main logic here, I think, is that people wanted Wilken to draft players who were more highly thought of by the sports media (players with more hype around them) because they expect them to play best. I don't think anybody really expected to get Donaldson, so it is easy to think of him as a no talent nobody drafted too high.

Funny, everything I read said that Vitters was a consensus Top 5 pick, wouldn't get past the Pirates at 4, and was the best hitter in the draft. Weird how how a high school prospect with no ceiling could be so highly regarded.

I was referring primarily to Donaldson with the later parts of that post, as I made clear when I mentioned him by name. Also, I wasn't criticizing the draft picks the Cubs took, if you bothered to read the rest of my post.

EDIT: Hold on, the post you quoted from me wasn't even originally posted in this thread! It was from the Cubs picks thread. Could these posts be moved, please?
