The Colorado Rockies announced this morning that the club has designated outfielder Steve Finley for assignment. To take his place on the roster, the club has selected the contract of outfielder Sean Barker from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Barker (#14) will be looking to make his major league debut in tonight's series opener against Houston at Coors Field.

Finley should do the fans of all MLB teams a favor and retire. No one wants to see an aged center fielder stinking it up for several million when there are plenty of crummy players at AAA who will stink just as badly for league minimum.

If Hendry's trying to move Jones to free up space for Pie, he probably isn't interested in Finley.

Why am I worried that we'll pick up Finley....

I'm not sure why. He practically was begging the Cubs for a job in Februrary, and he wasn't signed by them then-if they weren't going to sign him then, it would be very unlikely for them to do it now with Pie supposed to stay up with the major league club for good.

Because Jim Hendry is stupid enough to rationalize signing Finley by thinking that it allows Pie to go back to AAA and get more everyday experience while simultaniously giving the ML club a veteran CF.

Jones to CO might make sense. Do they have anything of interest?

Jeff Francis or Matt Holliday please

Troy Tulowitzki and Chris Iannetta.

That's not the best link, but it's the first one I could find. Finley made it no secret that he was looking for the Cubs to give him a call, and he waited a long time before signing with Colorado (I believe somewhere at the end of February or so). The Cubs didn't call in all that time-I doubt they will have changed their minds now that Pie has made it to the majors maybe even slightly faster than projected.

This last sentence says it all:

The Florida Marlins, despite their need for a center fielder, are not interested.

Some teams just know what personnel to acquire and relinquish for a quality product on the field.

I wonder if we could sell Jones as a CF to the fish and pick up 4 of the 6M on next year's deal? Jones is bad, but he's not at the level of Steve Finley just yet.

Maybe we could trade him for Mitre, Nolasco, and Pinto. :D

That is the going rate for weak armed center fielders isn't it?
