Much worse.

There can be no legitimate argument to the contrary.

Lynch's record as GM: 414-472 .467

Hendry's: 377-401 .485

# of Playoff Appearances:

Lynch: 1

Hendry: 1

# of Playoff Victories:

Lynch: 0

Hendry: 6

# of Division Titles:

Hendry: 1

Lynch: 0

Neither of them were (are) very good, but Lynch was worse. He caught lightning in a bottle with a bunch of veterans and benefited from Sammy Sosa's sudden emergence as a Hall of Famer to win the WC one year, and that was it.

Under Jim Hendry's watch, the Chicago Cubs today refused to suspend one of their players who started a fistfight with a teammate in the dugout.

End of discussion.

Here's a list (not necessarily all inclusive) of the things Hendry did to put together this season's ball club.

An outfield made up of 4 left fielders and 1 second basemen.

A patchwork pitching staff relying on 2 veteran pitchers with .500 career records to be #2 and #3

Starting the season with a #5 pitcher who can't hit 90 MPH following arm surgery...for a guy who is supposed to be a power pitcher

No true leadoff hitter on the ballclub

No every day second basemen or shortstop

A suspect bullpen with an average (at best) closer

A catcher that is a major defensive liability

An ace pitcher who is about as emotionally fragile as the average 15 year old girl

Long term contracts (some with no trade clauses) for mediocre veterans at all positions (infield, outfield, starting pitching, relief pitching)

A farm system that seems to be unable to produce position players

A bench with 2 guys who need to be playing in the American League (Ward, Floyd)

A team baseball IQ that is roughly equivalent to the average little league team

A 65 year old manager who appears to be about 10 years past his prime (when the reigning manager of the year and former cub was available)

Some of these moves would be acceptable as short-term solutions for a general manager that just took over. But Hendry's been with the organization far too long to put together such a crappy roster.

Hendry can't be fired soon enough in my opinion. I sure as the world don't want him in charge of the fire sale that needs to take place over the next couple of months. What are the chances at him actually being able to identify the right prospects to ask for in trades?

And all that for only $100 million! :D

This is rather insulting to the average 15 year old girl.

While it may be insulting, it's a fact.

With all of the denial around here, a little hyperbole is needed.

What denial?

And, "a little"?

I wish people would stop quoting him. I've got him on ignore, but I still end up seeing all his posts because people keep egging him on. :x

The option is at the bottom of a post when you have Premium.

It's the same thing every time -- it just gets old.

I wasn't aware of an ignore feature with Premium. I might just fork over the money afterall if I can avoid reading nonsense.

Is this the thread where we make stupid one line comments about how bad the Cubs are?

The Cubs are sooo bad....

That instead of fighting the other team, they're fighting each other.
