The Marlins are paying nothing for Benitez. Why is this such a horrible trade for them?

You're all talking like he's Jose Mesa or something.

Benitez is owed $5,066,666 from the remainder of his $7.6 million salary this year, of which Florida will pay $333,333 and San Francisco will pay $4,733,333.

Yup. The Marlins aren't paying much at all which is what I figured.

My editor was extremely happy today because the Giants got rid of Benitez. I liked the mysterious knee injury Armando cited yesterday as the reason he couldn't pitch on Wednesday after balking away the game against the Mets on Tuesday.

I don't see how this is such a bad or reckless move for the Marlins at $333K. It's nothing like the gambles Hendry took on Kerry Wood, Wade Miller, or Mark Prior.

That 333K is just what they were paying Messenger. It's a low risk medium reward deal. Beinfest is a very good GM and it makes me sick.

What makes me sick is that Gonzalez saw right through Benitez and decided to keep Gregg as the closer.

We could've signed Gonzalez in the offseason, you know. We got Lou instead.

Now I'm very glad I dropped Bush instead of Gregg when I picked up Hennessey.

Benitez has been tolerably good vs. RH batters over the past few seasons. $333K is not expensive for a ROOGY, or for any other type of baseball player.

My fantasy team is not pleased.

Neither is mine.... nevermind just read the espn article sited and am glad I did before I dropped my man Gregg.

Too bad Capps finally took over for Torres. It's like the Pirates looked, found themselves in 2nd and decided to put their best players on the field. Torres is better suited for multiple innings.
