I'm travelling to san Fran for a conference and finally log in and see the score tonight and I start laughing out loud hysterically. Part of me wants them to lose every game the rest of the year so real changes are made.

But that's besides the point. Are we ha-ha funny yet?

Real changes? Like firing the manager and most of the coaching staff, then spending $300 million on FAs?

Or are you referring to firing the GM and hiring a new GM that actually has a 3 year plan to get and stay competitieve? Hendry had a plan as well until that plan started to fail and his job was on the line.

Hendry has a plan, but usually a bad one that changes every year so nothing ever gets accomplished.

Hendry & Snyder(Redskins) should get together. Hendry's Snyder's kind of guy. To hell with player development, just take all the cash and blow it on the latest FA's, put together your ballclub like a jigsaw puzzle and then act shocked when it doesn't work.

the worst thing that happened to the cubs may be their 2003 season. when they got that close, hendry thought the cubs were right there and began to mortgage the future with trades and/or big contracts thinking the cubs were just a move or two from a championship. the fact is they were lucky to get into the playoffs in 03 largely based on houston's choke job and the combo of Wood and Prior.

on topic: i'm not finding it funny, really. at the same time, i don't have the kind of rage that's usually there when they lose. i seem to be finding it depressing lately because the division is so bad and the cubs still aren't good enough to win it (or so it seems).

Yeah, we're fun bad. When you don't even get mad when your team is losing, you definitely know that there is no hope and that they suck. I laughed pretty hard when Uggla hit that wind-aided HR. The near-botched rundown was also pretty hilarious.

What bothers me is I still follow the cubs, but not like I used to. Last year really soured me on this team, and this year isn't shaping up any better. I think I'll always be a cubs fan, I can't root for any other team, my hearts not in it. What I don't understand is why I don't get mad anymore at every game...I just laugh and say "typical", "you suck", and stuff like that.

I hope I get it back one day.

At least I can go to the Card and Sox fans' boards and enjoy their misery.

Umm the cards are only a half game behind us lol.

I think I'm just resigned to the fact that this is the team we have and the Cubs won't be good for another 3 years at least. Hendry has really destroyed any chance a new GM might have to make changes quickly by handing out all the ridiculous contracts this offseason. We'll need at least 3 years to get some of the bad contracts out (Lilly, Marquis, Dempster, Eyre, Howry, Jones, Blanco). If we trade any of those guys, it probably means we've agreed to pay a part of their remaining salary anyway (put me on the record as saying I don't believe Marquis and Lilly will continue to be as good as they've been the first 2 months).

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better for us Cub fans. The new ownership will probably take a while to make any serious changes, but the glimmer of hope is there that they will have a better approach and understanding of how to build a team, and that with the Cubs fanbase and financial resources, they can be good within a few years.

After the fight today I think the answer to this question is a unanimous "yes".

Yes, today ended all real possibility of debate on this subject.

Agreed. This team has definitely passed over into that wacky realm of things so bad they're funny.
