Good to hear Colvin is doing well, think he'll be at Daytona all season, or does he have a chance to get bumped up to Peoria?

I guess you could consider Peoria being "up" as it is further north, but his next step should be Tennessee.

Shucks, I knew I messed that up somehow. I was thinking that Daytona was the rookie club and that Peoria was the regular A. I'm new to paying attention to the minor leagues, so I must take more time to figure everything out.

So anyway, what are the chances he gets bumped to Tennessee? :)

Edit: Ok, got it. Mesa is the rookie league team, Boise is the short-A, Peoria is the A, and Daytona is the advanced A. :taps head:

Mesa Cubs>Boise Hawks>Peoria Chiefs>Daytona Cubs>Tennessee Smokies>Iowa Cubs

IMO Colvin will stay at Daytona for pretty much the entire season since he skipped over Peoria. Daytona is currently 6.5 games out of 1st place in their division, and Tennesee is in 1st by a game so if they win the first half of the season and get the automatic play-off berth I think Colvin could join them for the playoffs.

You have it backwards. By using "greater than" signs when you probably meant to use "less than" signs you actually have Mesa as the top farm team and Iowa at the bottom.

I think he wanted you to say that so he could jump in and add the last chain:

>Chicago Cubs :D

If you are using hope and expectation that a Cubs prospect will be somebody one day, this may actually be true. The higher up the ladder they go, the less hope and expectations we have in them.

I wasn't really using the greater than symbol in its true use, I was using it more to show flow like you would see someone give computer commands.

That's what I figured, but I have to admit I like Jersey Boy's (that name feels weird) explanation better.

I still call him goony, which is entertaining because half the posters here think goony was banned. :D

How long until he gets a nickname of his own? I vote that we start calling him HOLLA!

no wonder Raisin has so many posts....he uses 3 posts to introduce these threads when he could just do one

Normally just do one post but Outshined ditched us so I have to pick up his duties too.

Was that nickname ever used for Hollandsworth? If so Holliman could be Holly.

It was used for Hollandsworth, but I believe he's out of baseball now. Holla just sounds better than Holly.

Arizona Phil talks about Juan Mateo's start yesterday at extended spring training:

The EXST Cubs (Boise/Mesa) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the 8th to defeat the EXST Angels 6-4 at Mesa’s Fitch Park Field #3 this morning, in a game that featured the second rehab start for RHP Juan Mateo.

Mateo, who has been on the Cubs 15-day DL with a sore shoulder since ST, increased his innings to three and his pitch count to 40+, as he threw 41 pitches (29 strikes, 4/2 GB/FB), with his fastball topping out at 92 MPH. He allowed three hits (one HR) and one run, but no walks, with three strikeouts, in his three innings of work.

As long as he does not having any significant negative physical symptoms in the aftermath of today’s game, Mateo looks fit and ready to leave Mesa and continue his rehab (gradually increasing his pitch count) at Daytona or Tennessee, with a return to the Iowa starting rotation probably by no later than mid-June, possibly even earlier.

Sounds like Mateo is ready to leave Mesa.

Good news. Mateo is probably trade bait at this point. But I think he has a real good arm and could be a good 4th starter or a better than average reliever.

Pretty sure Holliman was called Holly in the clubhouse yesterday, but I could be wrong. I did learn a new nickname for Veal while there.

On another note, I'm curious if the treatment of Gary Cates continues through the series. On Monday night the PA guys were all over him with a series of songs making fun of his height. I asked Gary what he did to anger everyone and he had no clue where it came from. Not sure if those listening to the broadcast Monday picked up on that. Probably a non issue now, but that stuck out from Monday.
