samardzija's numbers are friggin horrible

Thats kind of expected when you are told to throw changeups more than any other pitch. His numbers dont mean much as long as he learns to throw the changeup for a quality pitch on a consistent basis.

Not all that surprising...neither is Atkins putting up strong numbes yet again. He is easily the most underrated pitcher in the system. I thought he was our best last year...

How has Veal been pitching lately? I'm going down to the game and wondering what to expect.

I believe he's pitched very well recently, but his numbers are still showing the effects of a horrid start.

God-awful outing for Veal... 3 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 2 HR allowed.

A better 4th inning only allowing 1 walk. Man, I don't know what is going on with him this year. Looked like he was turning it around, but these last 2 or 3 starts have been awful.

Samardzija: 5 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 ER, 2 K's/1 BB. Besides his one real bad outing his last time out, that looks like the same line he's had repeatedly throughout this season. Daytona down 2-0 as the D-Cubs anemic offense can't give Samardzija any run support. Get used to it, kid.

Actually, I think this is his first bad start in awhile. His last outing he pitched in relief when his normal turn in the rotation was given to Wade Miller for a rehab start.

No, he was pretty bad versus Mississippi on Sunday as well.

His control was off against the Braves and they were sitting on his fastball.

I had forgotten that he had a start after his relief outing before today. I was on the road that day, so I wasn't really following the action.

Daytona loses 2-1. Johnson and Phelps pitched 3 no-hit innings of relief for the D-Cubs. Dope was 1/2 with a double and the lone RBI. Colvin was 1/4. Matulia and Valdez had the only other Daytona hits.

Iowa just put a 6 spot on the board in the 6th to take a 6-1 lead. Miller: 5 IP, 5 hits, 1 ER, 4 K's/3 BB's. Randy Wells came on in relief and struck out the side in the 6th. Soto hit a 3-run HR and Kinkade has driven in two runs as well. EPatt is 1/3 with an RBI, Cedeno is 1/2 with a double and a walk, and Fontenot is 0/2 with a walk. Pie has the day off.

Tennessee has come back to take an 8-7 lead in the 7th. McGehee is 2/4 with a homer and 4 RBI's. Matt Craig is 2/2 with two doubles and two walks. Jemel Spearman is 2/3 with a double, a walk, and 3 RBI's. Jake Fox is 0/3 with a walk and 2 runs.

How's Scott Moore doing this year?

Not good: .232/.351/.368 entering tonight's game. Good IsoD, though.

2 triples on the night  If the gamecast is accurate, it doesn't look like the second one missed being a homer to dead center. 3-5 with 2 runs and 4 RBI; OPS up to .913.

Petrick continues to strike guys out. I believe he now has a 23/5 K/BB ratio between Daytona and Tennessee.

Loving what I'm seeing from William this year.

Does anyone know why Schappert was called up to Iowa? He did pitch a scoreless 8th for Iowa, but I'm just puzzled on why he was the one that was called up. An ERA of over 6 in Tennessee and he's promoted? Cherry into pitch the 9th as Iowa leads 13-1.

Cherry isn't going to make it a quick 9th. 3 walks to start the 9th followed by an RBI IF single after falling behind 3-0.

I was at the Smokies games on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Schappert pitched Wednesday night and really stunk. He pitched one scoreless inning, but the next inning he pitched to five batters without getting even one of them out, and all five scored (although some of them scored after he was taken out). So he was charged with 3 hits, 3 walks, and 5 earned runs in 1 inning.
