This is so whacked.

Eat your heart out Charlie Manual.

I'm with CT. It's fun.

Yeah, its the baseball version of Puddy and Eileen from Seinfield. On again, off again in a moments time.

The fun's only just begun if he moves Dempster into the rotation and he gets slaughtered.

The fans in this town, man they can be great but something like this? It will be noted and held against Lou pretty much forever.

I like your new posting style. You used to capitalize entire random words. Now you use a lot of sentences. It is funny.

So much for policing personal attacks.

Oh my god you are such a baby.

(That's a personal attack)

*gasp*

''Everybody's angle is that if we're doing this, it's going to be a permanent thing. I'm not going to go start three or four games then go back and start closing again,'' he said.

He never got the chance.

The Cubs apparently want Dempster's experience as a reliever since they have young pitchers like Angel Guzman in the bullpen.

''The nice part is Lou told me you will start again, so I have that,'' Dempster said. ''That's fine with me, as long as I know that. If it's sometime this season, if it's next year, if it's the year after that, I don't know,'' he said.

''I'm just going to go out there and do what they ask me to do.''

Piniella wasn't available after Dempster's plans were changed again. But he said earlier making Dempster a starter had been discussed and so had all the ramifications that went with it.

So our long national nightmare is over? At least temporarily?

New owners and managers who know what they're doing please. Can't wait for the Trib sale of the Cubs. The fact that Guzman has been put into the bullpen and there is talk about Dempster in the rotation shows how poorly run this franchise is.

Please

They talked about it and all the ramifications that would come with it.

They, "Lou and company", are looking for something to make this team click. They are looking. Repeat that word, slowly. Looking. In this useage it means to think and ask opinions of trusted individuals.

If they werent looking at different options and what the outcomes of those options were then they should be run out of town. Its called thinking. Which some of the posts in this thread apparently have a lack of.

Sometimes this board just reminds me of a three ring circus.

Ok-if Dempster is staying in the bullpen, then this whole picture becomes a little easier. One person from the bullpen has to go. The most obvious choice who one would think the Cubs would select would be Marmol-but Lou has been talking him up for 3 days about how they are going to load up the pen with power arms, so one has to assume he's safe for now. Cotts and Wuertz are probably also still safe even though neither have been very good lately. So that leaves Ohman, Howry, and Eyre. Eyre is the obvious choice here-he has really fallen out of favor with Lou. The only big question is if they can find a way to send him to the DL, a trade to a team, or an outright release (the first one being the most likely, the last one being the least likely).

The second question is of course who the fifth starter is going to be. It seems to be down to 2 choices-Sean Marshall or Wade Miller. If Marshall comes up as a starter and Eyre is put on the DL, then the pitching staff overall got a little better. If Miller comes up, then the Cubs are in a slightly better position then when they started the season with both Miller and Eyre, but still in a very bad position and in a worse one then they were in a few days ago.

If Wade Miller ever again pitches for the Cubs, they are an even worse organization that I thought, which is saying something.

Do you ever have anything good to say? Ever?

The Cubs are run by dunderpates.

maybe the "big suprise" is that Wade Miller has secretly been able to get his velocity up to 95MPH and that they are waiting til monday to say "Haha! GOTCHA!! Wade Miller's awesome!".

The Cubs spend enough money to field a winning team.

The Cubs organization is pretty good at developing pitchers.

Ryan Theriot is a nice little ballplayer.

I believe Felix Pie will someday be one of the best players in baseball.

Good post. I agree that Eyre definitely seems to be the odd guy out and I can see a trip to the DL for him to hopefully get his act together. I don't think the Cubs will move Miller back to the rotation. He didn't have that great of an outing in AA a few days ago and I think that Lou realizes that having Miller as the 5th starter would be a mistake. Marshall should be the obvious choice here, but you never know.

Lou made it seem like it would be a bigger surprise than just having Marshall or Miller up here. I'm probably the first to say this, but could it maybe be Mark Holliman that gets promoted? I know it's a longshot, but judging by what Lou was saying on Friday, a longshot could be the "big news" that he was referring to.

Dempster goes from closer to starter back to pen - Yahoo! Sports

Hopefully this can now be filed away somewhere and never be spoken of again.

We can only hope.

I don't think it's all that bad of an idea if done at the appropriate time. Dempster is not the prototypical reliever. He walks to many batters. I'd prefer Marmol at closer if he turns out to be as good as some think he can. So let's give the kid some time and maybe next year look to make him the closer. Then you could move Dempster to the 7th/8th in a setup role or possibly move him into the rotation as a 5th starter. His previous attempts at starting have been unsuccessful so I would be skeptical. However, he really sounds like he wants to start again and maybe he's ready to make the transition back to a starting role...just not now.
