I need some help from my stat junkie friends, but it seems to me that our best ball of this year was played when Felix Pie was getting regular PT. Am I correct here??---what was our record with him starting in CF? What about games he appreared in?

I guess my point is maybe he is just pure energy. A "winner", so to speak. I have always felt there is something to the notion that some guys just have that winning charisma. I wonder if he is just that guy. Maybe I am crazy, but the team just seemed to have a different spark when he was around--not because of his stats, but just from him being him. this is based just on my own gut feeling.

Any thoughts??

The Cubs were 4-5 in games that Pie started. I'm not sure about games he appeared in, but that would be a pretty flawed stat-Pie for half the time he was here was primarily used as a defensive replacement, and a defensive replacement comes in when the team is leading late-it would stand to reason that the games he came in under that scenario would be games the team would normally win.

I don't know the stats, but I can tell you there's no magic intangible that's going to make up for the fact that over half our lineup may well have an OBP below .350 before the season is over. If we won the games Pie started, it's virtually certain to be a coincidence.

I know this is an old thread but I think it deserves to be revisited. I really have been on fire this year--I called the cubs to be back to .500 by May6, I predicted that Pie makes a difference and HE DOES--someone smarter than me tell me what are record with him on the roster now is??? I think along with Fonte and Theriot (LSU) and Pie (through the cubs system), you have guys that have won....period, I dont care if they are top ten prospects or not--they are winners!! Leave them alone and let them play.

My next prediction. The cubs will be in forst place on September 1.

We have been playing our best ball since Soriano got real hot. Yet stupid mistakes this team makes prevented a long winning streak. I expect this to continue throughout the season.

For crying out loud we have to young pitchers, Hill and Marshall that have looked like aces out there. We should be 10-15 games over .500. One of the most underachieving teams I have ever seen.

To date, the Cubs best 10 game stretch of the year took place between April 25 and May 8 when they went 8-2. Of course, they played St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Washington in 9 of those 10 games. I also seem to recall that it was around the time Ryan Theriot was inserted in the 2-hole, and I remember him being a good catalyst because he was always ahead in the count.

not with this offense and bullpen, we shouldn't. The Cubs really aren't as good on paper as you think they are.

Maybe they shouldn't be quite that good. And they definitely shouldn't be 10-15 games over, but they've really had a lot of bad luck (or sucky relief pitching, however you want to look at it) in close games. I know I'm just repeating what's been said many times over on here, but, while they've played nothing like world beaters, they've definitely played significantly better than their record would indicate.
