Chris, could you do us all a favor and *cough*accidentally*cough* run over Miller tonight?

ha ha, too far of a drive. And if I'm going to watch any ball tonight, it'll be Longoria over Miller.

Evan Longoria is quickly becoming one of the five best everyday players I have seen in my five years in the Southern League.. What a player!!

Dude is a stud. Every ball he hit last night was hit hard.

For those interested, here is my top five Southern League players that I have seen since 2003:

#1 Miguel Cabrera (Carolina-2003)

#2 Evan Longoria (Montgomery-2006, 2007)

#3 Delmon Young (Montgomery-2005)

#4 Prince Fielder (Huntsville-2004)

#5 Joey Votto (Chattanooga-2006)

Not too shabby of a list if you ask me. Scott Moore and Felix Pie would probably make the top ten or fifteen if I lengthened the list.

Posted

I knew someone would ask for it.. Okay, here you go:

#1 Angel Guzman (West Tenn-2003)

#2 Dontrelle Willis (Carolina-2003)

#3 Rich Hill (West Tenn-2005)

#4 Danny Haren (Tennessee-2003)

#5 Bobby Jenks (Birmingham-2005)

BTW, Murton is number six on my list of everyday players

Tennessee down 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th. Miller's final line: 5.2 IP, 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 K/2 BB's, 7 groundouts-9 flyouts. Mendez came in to get the final out in the 6th. Veal pitched the 7th out of relief allowing a hit and striking out 1. Jake Fox hit his 6th HR of the season to account for Tennessee's scoring so far.

I saw Cabrera and Willis play for Carolina in 2003 when they hosted West Tenn. I believe former Cub farmhand Ryan Jorgensen (who was traded to Florida along with Willis in the Clement/Alfonseca trade) was also playing for Carolina at the same time.

Was today Veal's side day, so they decided to pitch him in relief to get his work or what?

Smokies come back with 5 in the 8th to win 6-4. Veal got the win in relief going 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 3 K's/4 BB's. Geoffrey Jones got the 1 out save as he got a K to end the game.

Carlos Rojas had a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the 8th to put Tennessee in the lead for good. Salas and Simokaitis also had RBI singles in the 8th. Jake Fox finished 4/4 with a solo HR and 3 singles.

Iowa down 2-1 in the top of the 5th. EPatt is 1/2 with a walk. Pie is 0/1 with a walk and Cedeno walked in his first PA.

It was his start day, and they bumped him for Wade Willer's rehab assignment? What's the motivation behind that?

I don't know and I'm not pleased. Tennessee has two other guys (Berg and Hart) who have struggled much more than Veal and aren't anywhere near the prospects Veal is. Wade Miller's rehab could have waited two more days. Or he could have thrown in Peoria where they have 80% of their opending day rotation on the DL.

Whatever, Wade Miller would be best served outside the organization.

Iowa scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 4-4 (had a chance to win it but Cedeño and Walker failed).
