Iowa scored 2 in the 9th to tie it at 4 after RBI singles by Hoffpauir and Soto, which scored Felix and Kinkade. Iowa had a chance to win it with runners at 1st and 3rd and only 1 out, but Cedeno struck out swinging and Walker grounded out.

Glad to see E-Patt with another walk today... he's shown me that he can hit for decent power and average at any level, so now I'm more interested in his walk rate and defense improving.

Big assist goes to Felix with an OF assist to save the game in the top half of the 10th.

Good luck to the MLB if they want to run on Soriano and Pie for the next 5-6 years. 2 of the strongest and accurate arms around.

He's a sidearmer, so that's completely expected. As a true LOOGY, he could dominate at the ML level.

How long was Papelbon's streak with Boise last year? It seems like Roquet may be closing in on it.

I hope all of the Longoria love didn't jinx him. I saw that he only got 1 AB and then also saw that he got hit by a pitch. Anyone know anything?

IowaCubs.com"]Kinkade Blast Cubs past Cats

Iowa comes from behind for 10 inning win

By Toby Hyde / http://www.iowacubs.com

Mike Kinkade's two run opposite field blast in the bottom of the tenth gave the Iowa Cubs their second walk-off home run of 2007 and a 6-4 victory over the Sacramento River Cats Tuesday afternoon. With the score tied 4-4, Eric Patterson began the inning with a groundball single into centerfield. After he moved to second on a Felix Pie groundout, Kinkade clubbed the game winner. The Cubs earned a split of the series with Sacramento, and finished their eight-game homestand against the California teams at a sparkling 6-2.

The game was tied into the bottom of the tenth thanks in large part to a terrific defensive play from Felix Pie to end the top half. Sacramento had runners at second and third, when shortstop JJ Furmaniak lofted a fly ball to shallow centerfield. Pie's throw home beat Lou Merloni who had tagged up at third base. Merloni tried to run over Cubs catcher Geovany Soto who wisely avoided the worst of the contact.

The Cubs tied the game at 4, with two run in the bottom of the ninth. Pie began the rally by flaring a single to left field. After Mike Kinkade walked with the tying run, Micah Hoffpauir singled to right to bring home Pie, sending Kinkade to third. Soto singled sharply to right bringing home Kinkade with the tying run and putting the winning run 90 feet away from scoring with no outs. However, the Cubs couldn't find the hit to win the game in regulation.

Iowa scored its first two runs on sacrifice flies. Tony Richie brought home Buck Coats in the fourth, and in the fifth, Coats plated Kinkade.

Iowa starter Les Walrond fought through six innings allowing three runs on eight hits. Walrond has thrown six innings in six of his eight Iowa starts.

Eric Patterson extended his hitting streak to nine with a 2-5 afternoon.

The Iowa Cubs improved to 22-17, the best record in the PCL American Conference and held on to their two game lead over the Nashville Sounds for first place in the division.

SmokiesBaseball.com"]Smokies rally late, beat Lookouts 6-4

Sevierville, TN – Carlos Rojas crushed a 3-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Tennessee Smokies to a 6-4 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts. A boisterous crowd of 4,109 watched the Smokies rally from a 4-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the eighth inning and end a two game losing streak.

Jake Fox led the Smokies again today with a solo home run in the 4th inning, his second in two games to stake the Smokies to a 1-0 lead. Fox finished the game 4-4 with a home run and one RBI.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Wade Miller got the rehab start for the Smokies today, and was very effective through five innings holding the visting Lookouts to just one run. Miller ran into some trouble in the fifth inning however, and left the game with two out in the sixth inning. With the Lookouts leading 3-1, Adalberto Mendez retired the next batter to end the inning.

Miller finished the day pitching 5 2/3 innings yielding 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, & 1 strikeout through 86 pitches. Of the 86 pitches, 52 were for strikes. Donnie Veal (2-4), the regular Smokies starter, came on in the seventh and yielded just one run.

With the Smokies down 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Sam Fuld led off the inning with a single, followed by a Chris Robinson walk. After a pitching change, Fox hit a hard single to left field to load the bases. After Veal struck out, Issmael Salas had an RBI single to left, followed by an RBI single by Joe Simokaitis to cut the lead to 4-3. Rojas then strode to the plate, and ripped a double to right field which emptied the bases and staked Tennessee to a 6-4 lead.

Veal retired the next two batters in the ninth, then gave up a single to Tyrell Godwin. Smokies closer Geoff Jones came on to strike out the final batter for his fifth save. Mike Bumatay (0-1) took the loss for Chattanooga.

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs took game one of a four game series with the Beloit Snappers 3-1 at O’Brien Field on Tuesday night. The Chiefs move to within two games of first place Clinton who was rained out today.

The Chiefs picked up back-to-back singles with two outs in the second inning from Wellington Castillo and DJ Lewis but Snappers starter Adam Hawes got Jonathon Mota to fly out to right to end the threat.

Chiefs starter Alex Maestri allowed just one base runner through the first eight hitters but surrendered a one out home run in the third inning to Danny Santiesteban to give Beloit a 1-0 lead. The homer was just the second allowed by Maestri in 23 innings pitched.

The Chiefs wasted no time in answering back the run put up by Beloit in the top of the third. Jim Adduci reached on an error by the shortstop Steven Singleton and then just one batter later Yusuf Carter connected on his fourth home run of the season to make it 2-1.

Carter continued to swing a hot bat with at two out double into the left field corner. Josh Lansford came up with an opposite field single to right to extend the Chiefs lead to 3-1.

Maestri worked the first four innings allowing just one run on three hits while recording one strikeout. Jayson Ruhlman came onto work three shutout innings allowing just one hit en route to his third win of the season. Oscar Bernard worked a scoreless eighth to keep the Chiefs lead 3-1. Rocky Roquet extended his scoreless innings streak to 18 2/3 and picked up his ninth save which ranks him second in the Midwest League.
