According to ESPN1000, the Cubs have recalled Angel Pagan. They did not indicate who would be sent down, but speculated that it would be Pie.

I can't find anything else to confirm this, so take it with a grain of salt until another source makes a similar report.

Me no likey Pagan, but I'm on board with this move, if true. Pagan and Pie probably bring similar total value to the 2007 team. However, Pie's greatest value to the team is his future, which is only hindered by sitting on the bench.

That's what Pagan has done against LHP this year. He sucked vs RHP. It's not great, but certainly better than Jones.

Although, for his career, I think he's actually worse against LHP.

That's just fine. While Pagan if he's anything like last year won't be the defensive help that the team needs, he will be a better offensive player right now than Pie especially to play against left-handers. Add in the help to Pie's development and this makes this a very good move.

Those are Hall of Fame numbers compared to Jones against lefties...I like the move...he's fast, can play defense, can hit lefties better than Jones (so can I), most importantly gets Pie every day at bats, and now that he's had a taste of the Bigs, a little more motivation to improve at the plate so he can be here every day.

The only stats I think that are known about Pagan against LHP besides this year's data is his major league data from last year, when he was terrible against them in 56 at-bats. Hopefully that was an aberration.

His 2005 numbers are just as bad.

Where are you finding his 2005 splits?

Not "just" as bad, but bad nonetheless.

I don't mind this move. Pie wasn't getting the playing time to justify having him up there just for his defense. As frustrating as Jones is he'll probably give us an offensive advantage, at least against RHP.

EDIT: Pagan will make a good pinch runner. With Marquis pitching so well the Cubs can't take a chance on having Marquis pinch run for us anymore. :)

I like the move in that it gives us somebody that has a shot at hitting lefties and can play CF. And it lets Pie play everyday till the situation allows him to at MLB level.

YAY! Good job Felix. I think he looked good for someone as raw as he is.

This moves works out in so many ways. Pagan isn't good, but like Goony said, he's probably as safe a bet to produce anything Pie was gonna be able to do. He's not great defensively in CF, but does provide a RH bat to keep Jones out of the lineup vs. LHPs.

I thought Pie looked pretty bad. I am very glad that he will get to continue his progression playing daily at AAA instead of flailing daily in the majors.

I'm on board, just so long as Pagan is used in the same role Pie was, and not really any more than that.

Good, Pie can play everyday again. Next up, get more playing time for Murton.

Didn't Jones get off to a good start versus lefties this year too?

I'm glad Pie will get the AB's needed in AAA, though he should be the teams every day CF. This organization is a complete and utter joke.

How about it? Also get Soriano out of the leadoff spot and bat Lee 2nd.

I wonder what the asking price is for Church. I know it's probably high but he would look good playing CF for us.

During the offseason, Bruce said that the Nats were "asking the moon" for Church, and obviously the Cubs weren't willing to pay that just for a CF for one year at most.
