There goes the last of the first rounders from that 2002 class. Sorry, NCCF.

I knew it was inevitable, but I kept hoping that he'd somehow regain his control.

Not only was that a bad first round for the Cubs, it was also a bad year for Ball State pitchers. Hagerty's college teammate, Bryan Bullington, was the #1 overall pick (Pirates), and so far he's been a bust.

Bullington is actaully putting up some solid numbers in AAA so far this season, there is some hope he will still be a solid starter in the majors, he's certainly alot closer than Hagerty.

What a busted draft...

The Cubs poor track record in the draft has led more to their poor record in the MLB than anything else--I believe. Hendry and his scouting staff have not done well evaluating and cultivating talent. They went for too many homeruns--and too many of them ended up as busts. I can name all the names, but you'll just puke in your mouth. I'm glad Stockstill is gone to Baltimore and we now have a scouting director that has a proven track record. In the long run, this will lead to a winning team on the field more than the $300 million spent in the offseason.

Who needs Frank Thomas when you could have Earl Cunningham?

I would still take Earl Cunningham. Oh and I also would have rather had Ty Griffin than Robin Ventura.

Half of these young guys' arms are on their way to being trashed by the time they're 15. I'm not surprised at all to see the toll it takes once they're drafted nor cases like Prior or Wood.

Bullington has been great this year. He will be in a Pirates uniform by the middle of this season if he keeps it up. His pitch count has not been a problem so far.
