ESPN Insider: Izturis done on Cubs?

I saw on ESPN.com that on their insider page they say the Izturis might be done on the north side? Does anyone get insider that cn read that? Just thought that would be an awfully interesting transaction.

I don't have insider but based on past history this is probably a story about how the Cubs will likely buy him out than bring him back at his relatively absurd option.

Insider just feeds off stories from the local papers. Since most chicago papers were reporting Theriot was going to be the shortstop for now, I'm betting ESPN just tweaked the headline to be much more dramatic. But I doubt Izturis is actually about to leave the team.

Apr 26 - If Ryan Theriot takes over as the Cubs' regular shortstop, don't be surprised if the team lets Cesar Izturis go after this season. According to the Chicago Tribune, Izturis is in the final year of his contract, and the Cubs likely will give him a $300,000 buyout instead of exercising his $5.45 million option in 2008.

Which is perfectly fine for anyone who doesn't live in the Chicago area. It may not be your best source for local information, but it gets straight to the point for a baseball fan reading anywhere else.

As long as he is not starting anymore and bought out at the end of the season rather than being re-signed, I can live with his gluteus maximus being glued to the bench for the rest of this year. I don't like the fact that he's a Cub in the first place, but that's over and done with.

Don't be fooled, Hendry has decided no such thing. The biggest thing in favor of Izturis being gone is the likelihood of new management making decisions. If Hendry returns I would not be surprised at all to see Izturis extended, let alone having the option picked up.

I think ESPN realized how worthless Insider is because they now allow only "Insider" subscribers to read certain columnists ... It's ridiculous.
