I give the Cubs a couple of months to figure out how to win with each other.

A couple of months?

I know a baseball season is kind of long, but come on.

I'm still trying to figure out how a baseball team learns to win with each other.

So Derrek, you like hitting the ball that way and think I should run around the bases when you hit it. That's cool, we did that differently in Washington, but I'll figure it out.

Hey Carlos, I think we need to figure out which days you plan on giving up lots of runs and which days you'll give up just 1 or 2, so we can adjust our offensive strategy accordingly.

Maybe he just meant that the team will "gel" after awhile. But I don't think it will take 2 months. :D It has already started. It started the day they came back with 4 runs in one inning to take the lead.

"gel"-ling is the same thing, it;s a meaningless baseball term more appropriate in the world of basketball or football, where timing is absolutely of the utmost importance.

baseball is not really a team sport.

the cubs weren't winning at the beginning of the year because they weren't hitting at the right times, which is no one's fault.

I disagree. There shouldn't be such a limited right time. They were hitting enough, and the times they were hitting at really are out of their control. They didn't have runners on base when they were hitting because they didn't get on base enough, which is their fault.

As long as there is more than on player on the team, it is a team sport, no matter how smart it sounds to argue the contrary. One player can only control so much of the game. For instance, take Ryan Theriot...he can get on base by a BB three times in a game. He isn't going to steal his way to a run. He has to hope that one of his teammates gets a hit or advances him into scoring position and eventually knocks him in.

That's not what he's talking about. In the context of teamwork, or "gelling", your example(like the vast majority of baseball) is a sequence of individual events.

Too optimistic to be a Cubs fan.

Too optimistic to be a Cubs fan? Screw you, man. This is exactly the type of mentality that's been plaguing this franchise for 99 years. Why not be optimistic? We have a good team on paper, we have momentum, we were playing the dregs of the league with the Nationals. Why not a good road trip and a sweep?

"Screw you, man" is not an appropriate response.

Hay Hay! I must admit I thought this was a joke too. It's to early for this right now.

I give the Cubs a couple of months to figure out how to win with each other. The Cubs thus far have been out of sync, good starting pitching, bad hitting; Good hitting crap pitching or bullpen. The last 5 or 6 games looked good and maybe they are growing together as a team.

Last years posts were to cull the negativity surrounding every post. Yes I knew the slings, arrows and gnashing of teeth would happen, that was part of the fun.

This year, different team and, I honestly believe, a much better result.

Oh no, Scott's back!

Sorry man, but I just got so angry.

That was what we call sarcasm. It is a pretty common joke too, I can't believe you haven't heard that one a million times before.

Don't let me fool you; I have no authority whatsoever here. No need to apologize to me.

Ha ha! This thread did better then any I posted last year.

I'm just glad the Cubs are doing things to win baseball games. Call it "geling" call it learning to play with each other, whatever they're winning and I am happy.
