I only think there are two situations where the wave is appropriate:

 

1) The crowd is so angry with their team that they do the wave as a sarcastic way of ripping the team (seen this done twice).

 

2) Wisconsin football games between the first and second quarters.

 

3) Waving to flag the beer vendor down.

I don't think that was a failed hit and run (Theriot/Soriano). Theriot does not have to change his strategy whatsoever because Soriano was running on the 3-2 count-he has to swing on all the strikes and look at all the balls anyway.

I dunno, Soriano had a pretty good jump and was about halfway to second when Theriot swung and popped it up. That kind of pitch is rarely swung at otherwise, considering it was high and inside.

2-2 still, inside, pops it up, eckstein and duncan slightly collide, duncan catches it
