Soriano Breakout game.

That's actually a great call. I'm kinda feeling that also...

I have made this call just about every game. I'll be right one of these times.

He had a hit in his pinch hit appearance, then a couple hits the last outing, right? I don't know that he "breaks out" but I could sure see a few good performances in a row here...

He is 4 for 11 with 2 doubles since he came back.

Soriano in left, Pie in center, Murt in right, Theriot at shortstop per ESPN 1000

I think that answers the question of if Lou was telling the truth when he said that Murton had a stiff back and that he would play him soon.

My guess would be: Soriano/Theriot/Lee/Ramirez/Barrett/Murton/DeRosa/Pie.

At least Pie will get to work on hitting breaking balls in that spot.

But seriously, whatever works at this point ... please.

Best lineup the Cubs have trotted out in a few years.

Won't happen, but my dream lineup with those guys would be

Theriot

Murton

Lee

Ramirez

Soriano

Pie

Barrett

DeRosa

I've got Pie in a mildly awkward spot to give him some protection with Michael behind him. Though he'll probably be in the 8 hole, and seeing a lot of breaking balls.

I'm reading The Baseball Economist right now, and according to Bradbury's research, players are likely to perform worse when "protected" by better hitters behind them. Something like the pitcher putting in max effort to avoid having a better batter come up with a runner on.

Something to chew on. If it's true, moving Pie into a "protected" spot is more likely to stunt his development.
