His bat might not be ready, but his defense is. He'd cover the range of a Sori/Murt LF/RF combo, provide a well above average arm on short drives, and will help the pitching staff. If we get the improved offense (and OBP) from Murton and Theriot, his bat wouldn't be an issue in the 8 hole.

Just my dos centavos

Funny how being a lousy hitter in the 8-spot is not a problem for Pie, but with Izturis it's the end of the world.

Izzy v. Theriot is an upgrade without a drop in defense.

I'd keep Jones and dump Floyd if it were possible, and make him the 4th OF. But that's probably not possible given their contracts.

And Pie is a much better hitter than Izturis anyway. And yes I have nothing to back that up.

We shouldn't even let our 7 and 8 hitters bat. We should forfeit those at-bats instead of wasting time.

Actually Z should have been hitting 7th.

Philly beats Houston 11-4. Philly with 20 hits.

My 3 team parlay was Cubs, A's, and Astros. A's held on to win, and if the Cubs hold on, I'm going to be pissed the Astros couldn't beat Adam Eaton to net me $117.

Pie's a better base runner.

But for me, his impact on the OF defense is more important than any perceived upgrade from Izzy to Theriot. His range and arm are both impressive and that will help a lot. Especially with notorious fly-ballers like Lilly on the mound.

We may to agree to disagree. My point is more that the upgrade in offense is more than offset by any loss of defense (which I would argue is minimal).

Wuertz for closer.

Wuertz for fire-putter-outter, whatever inning that may be. But I agree with the sentiment that he is our best relief pitcher.

I definitely think that is more appropriate that closing.

he's doing really well at his current role... if it ain't broke, don't fix it

That, and the theory that you put your best reliever in earlier to shut down the oppositions seems to be the theory that Lou has been using when it comes to Wuertz.

Agreed moving him to closer may ruin him.

My friend placed this bet for me. He uses sports.com. When I do it myself, which I can't do until I open a checking account down here this summer (stupid new US rules making it hard as hell for me), I usually use bodog.com, but I'm trying to find other sites to see if anyone is better in terms of bonuses and stuff.

Izturis is above-average defensively.... Theriot would be merely adequate.
