D-Lee will have his first HR tonight.

If that's the case, then you can't take credit, because I said that on the first page :D

Lee will hit one tomorrow night. Soriano will hit one Wednesday.

Your prognostication skills are well documented. You better be right. :club:

The concern is it is not just HRs, but he is not hitting the ball with any authority.

Another concern is the strikeouts--ouch.

I disagree about his hitting the ball hard. He has 7 2B's in 69 AB's. That means that if he has around a normal number of AB's, he will have 56 2B's-which would be a career high (the only time he hit 40 or more of those was 05).

The K numbers are consistent with every year but 2005.

Lee has hit a few long balls that the wind brought back in the last two weeks. Also, Lee and Mauer are the only players in baseball with .900+ OPS and no HRs.

He is hitting. The HRs will come.

Even if he had hit 3 or 4 at this point, I'd still think that trading Z for a bat a la Arod or Cabrera for #3 is best and Lee being the permanent #2 hitter is best. Lee is just so damn good at getting on base, and any power he would have there would just be delicious cake.

yeah i think a lot of us agree that this would be best, unfortunately the Marlins and Yankees don't agree

I bet the Yankees might agree, especially with their pitching in shambles right now.

yeah and Z would fix that how?

Do you really think Z is going to continue sucking? He's been terrible pretty much every April of his career. He's always been a slow starter.

I think he's just saying that right now there would be absolutely no way that the Yankees would trade the hottest hitter in the league for a pitcher who has an ERA over 7 and is due for a huge contract at the end of the year. The fans have a love-hate relationship with A-Rod-right now they love him, and they would lynch the Yankees front office if that happened.

Now if Z starts dominating, and A-Rod struggles for a month or two, it might become possible.

ARod's hot start pretty much eliminated any chance of the Yankees trading him. If he were sucking and getting booed by the fans, this would be a different story.

Didnt Lee crush one against the Padres in extra innings, but the wind kept it in? Same For DeRosa?

Sure, but it happens to everyone. It's not as though he's had 7 or 8 no-doubters that have been pushed back in.

what is it now, 85 plate appearances now?

19 games. i wager lee doesn't hit a single home run this year, unless it's inside the park. judging at how lucky he's getting on balls in play, that could be a possibility.

Or.....maybe the wrist thing was worse than described?

WHat a shock that would be.

I broke my wrist back in '97, and I still don't have full mobility either. Granted, I am a whole lot older that Derek Lee..... but the point is that this particular type of injury takes a long time to heal completely. (Mine most likely never will, but that's another story)

Lee's comment on the matter:

"Honestly, I haven't been too worried about it," Lee said. "I feel really good at the plate and like I said, home runs are mostly by accident. And today it just happened to be a higher pitch and got into the air. My home runs are going to come."

I found the bolded part quite interesting-I've never heard a player phrase it in quite that way before.

Wait. I was reading this thread, and I completely thought this was sarcasm or a joke until I read the rest of your posts in this thread and started to suspect otherwise.

You can't be serious, can you?

Were you seriously predicting that Lee would go all year without a home run?

he is one far out dude that is for sure... watch where they are pitching lee and where he is hitting it too, i've seriously seen them pitch inside on him about 10 times and about 5 of those have been rocketed for doubles and his 1 homer. He's hitting like .380 for christ sakes the pitchers will adjust and come inside more and his power will show up.

I mean, he has a murderous dictator in his avatar, which unless sarcastic, doesn't leave me to believe reason stands in his way.
