Wow. I think it's a good decision. I wonder what happens with the rest of the outfielders. It will definitely be interesting to see.

This seems like it probably screws Murton. With Soriano back, there would be three people to play LF. Unless they decide Murton can play RF or that they'd rather have Murton backing up Soriano than Floyd, he would be the odd man out.

It doesn't sound like it's permanent for now. It just sounds like they are going to play him in left to ease him back into the lineup and give more time for the hamstring. If Jones is not traded, my guess is that Soriano will be back in center in another week or two.

Actually, if they send down Pie (which is likely to get back to 12 pitchers) this is the absolute best thing for Murton. With Jones moving to CF, Murton is the only one left who can consistently play RF. He'll be starting most everyday until the outfield changes again. Floyd is the one who will really be hurt, as he can't play anything but LF and Sori will block him in that spot as long as he is there.

Jones needs to be traded ASAP.

This would be the quickest, easiest answer.

The Cubs just need to find a team to take Jacque. They couldn't find a good trade partner over the winter and spring training, but maybe some team's needs have changed since then.

Any ideas of teams who might need Jacque right now?

Look, no dissrespect to the organization that I worked for. But in my four seasons as the broadcaster with the Double-A team (2003-2006), Matt Murton was hands down the most talented player in those four years (that's right Cubs fans, even more talented then Felix Pie).

You can write this down: Matt Murton will hit 20-25 homers a year and hit .300 on a yearly basis for years to come. The loft he has on his swing is condusive to home runs It's just a matter of him filling his body out. Trust me, in 1-2 years this kid is going to be a stud. I only hope that the Cubs don't bury Murton for a past his prime guy who inevitably will hurt himself and the franchise if he plays everyday.

I think Pie is the one getting sent down, and Jones is still probably the one on the block. I don't see Murton going anywhere, minors or traded. I agree with jaxxradio that he's a 20-25 HR, 310/380 kind of guy.

In that case then, can you pinpoint what is wrong with him this year? His bat seems slow through the strike zone to me and he has a lot of check swings and weak swings and seems to seldom hit a ball hard.

He hasn't had consistent playing time since the season started.

He seems to be pressing as well. I'm sure he's worried about losing playing time. He's already getting benched for Floyd on a consistent basis.

Sounds about as permanent as it can get.

From the Chicagosports.com

"We're going to put him in left field. We're going to leave him in left field, put him in left field," Piniella said before Saturday's game against the Cardinals. "It will be less running. It will be much better for him. ... He's OK with that, I talked to him about it. He understands."

I don't see how it's going to work with Murton and Soriano in the outfield. That leaves Jones as the only LH threat against righties (I'm not including Izzy, and I don't think Pinellla is either). I don't see Lou being satisfied with this, but the only other options I see are.....

Floyd platoons in right (not going to happen)

Soriano and Floyd platoon (not going to happen)

Pie stays up and platoons with Murton (doesn't seem likely)

Murton is packaged in a deal for a big LH RF. (??)

This outfield situation is really giving me a headache.

Jones will be shipped off in the next couple months.

Floyd and Murton will play in right, and Pie will be in center.
