You make it sound like that is such a bad thing.

Granderson had very good numbers in the minors (.377/.495/.872) while about three years older than Pie at every level.

look at their age all you want. look at the minor league numbers all you want. for what they are now, it's a very valid comparison. it says nothing about who will be who 5 years from now.

Because Curtis Granderson sucks... Give me a break.

No but he's not the star that everyone is envisioning Pie at eventually be.

(of course its only Granderson's second year)

What makes it a valid comparison in your eyes?

Of course, lets ot ruin the smartaleck activity around here. Where would the fun be in that?

I guess because he says so...

Not everybody is envisioning Pie as a star. I'm hoping for a decent player who produces at a level a lot higher than he's paid for the next few years. That would be an enormous accomplishment for this organization, and something they desperately need since they are going to be overpaying so many veterans.

.283 .336 .466 - Pie

.262 .345 .473 - Granderson

guys with 15 or steals and 20 hrs max. thats their pecota. pretty fast guys in CF who hit left.

We might not get that from Soriano this year.

I'd at least like to see him play in the major leagues before I refrence his "pecota."

He doesn't have to be star, I don't think he will be. Doesn't mean he can't be a good player though. He beats the hell out of a lot of the crap they have brought up in years past.

it doesnt take pecota to project them both to have similar k rates, similar HR rates, similar steals, same position, similar defensive ability with granderson having a batter walk rate. it's very good comparison. perfect? of course not but it's better than anyone else in the game. if you can come up with a better one, be my guest.

I'd say its a decent comparison, doesn't make me wrong, or you right. Nobody is right or wrong right now, lets see how the kid does.

We have 5 outfielders who need regular playing time. Somebody has to go. I'm sure the Cubs would like to move Jones but they already tried that in the offseason and failed.

Pie will go when Soriano is healthy.

It may not have been a failure of the Cubs to move Jones-they weren't willing to move Jones until they could find a CF to replace him, and they never could do that. Without the need to find a CF to replace him, he likely will be easier to move.

We don't know that. If Pie goes on a tear while Fonz is gone it will be very difficult to justify sending him back to Iowa, particularly if Jones is still struggling.
