Bruce says whether or not Soriano goes on Dl, Pie is stayin. They will send ohman out first.

Ohman should be the one to go... I like that Pie is here to add some credible defense in the OF.

This guy has not played any games at the major league level for any determinable length of time and he is the next superstar?? before jumping on his band-wagon I think I want to kick the tires first.

That's what a callup for an injured player is, a kick the tires situation.

I don't think people are guaranteeing superstardom, rather they are expressing excitement to see a very talented player on the team.

I hear the under-tone of "boy, hell come up and show himself as a wunderkind and be starting cf by the end of the month" I remember Bobby Hill and the excitement generated by his call up. I hope everyone is right and he is a great hitter and fielder.

so, what you're saying is that it's all in your head?

Who is calling him "the next superstar"?

Exactly!

Pie is not Bobby Hill. Seriously, Pie was going to be recalled at some point. At the very least, he can play tremendous defense. If he is able to add anything on offense it is a plus; I'm sure there will be an adjustment period.

i like the idea of a murton, pie, soriano outfield.

the idea of theriot at 2b is also growing on me.

I agree with all of this, though DeRosa has been playing pretty well.

I think the excitement has to do with the fact that he's the top prospect in this system and has received quite a bit attention for the past few years. It'd be the same if he were playing at any other position or pitched; we've heard quite a bit about the guy and now we can finally see him in action!

Whether or not he succeeds remains to be seen. I'm not going to pass judgment on the guy in his first callup one way or another since we've seen plenty of guys come up, hit really well, and then hit a wall and we've also seen guys who've come up, sucked wind, but was later able to come back and play well.

However, I'm still quite excited. :D

Does Pie being called up mean the Cubs think Soriano's injury is more than day to day? If Aram is not back soon one of them has to land on the DL.

I think it just means that they no longer believe a 12 man pitching staff is a good idea with the possibility of players getting dinged up in this cold weather.

But you are right with Aramis... if he's going to be out too much longer he'll be put on the DL retroactively.

which is the problem. i like derosa, too.

If it really bothers you, then Theriot should start at SS.

I would rather give a "wonderkid" a chance than past-prime players. I know where the past prime player is going. Also if Bobby Hill was just given the job at 2nd base he wouldnt have been much worse than the turnstile of veterans who have played there. The problem with the Cubs and their fans is they expect a player to come up and be some kind of all-star right out of the gait. If not then we will go with the past prime mediocre guy. Hill does have a career .343 obp in about a seasons worth of ABs. I would expect that he would be better if he was just given the job and allowed to develop.

I would like to see Theriot and Murton hitting 1/2, which is probably a pipe dream since Soriano appears stuck in the top spot.

DeRosa could also be a supersub, giving off days to Pie, Murton, Theriot, and ARam. All of this assumes JJ and Floyd don't get the bulk of the playing time when Soriano returns.

Yay!

Now please please please please please don't hit him leadoff. 2 or preferably 7.

Nothing higher than 6th in the lineup please.

Just to clear up some possible confussion... wasn't Pie a September call-up in 2006? So this wouldn't be his official debut. Or am I wrong?

No. This will be his first time in the Bigs. He wasn't called up last September.

He was not a callup and was upset over it. So this would be his debut. It very likely worked out just the way Hendry would have hoped in that he has a legit reason to bring him up and can always send him back if he struggles but can keep him up if he does well.

If we're talking fantasy land of ideal lineups with the current team - I'd be all for that. But is Lou really benching or getting rid of Floyd, JJ, and Izturis? Those are some of JH's "biggest" or at least, favorite, acquisitions.

If you play fantasy football, there's a good reason why hamstring injuries always make teams squirm. They fall into the category of "nagging injury" where they could have an effect on a player over the course of a season if it doesn't fully heal.

With Pie up, there's not as much pressure on Soriano to come back ASAP. If he can take his time and get back to 100%, it'd be best for everyone involved.

I don't know about that favorite tag. Floyd was signed as a platoon/role player. JJ was reportedly on the trading block all offseason. And while I think Hendry was legitimately proud of acquiring a former gold glover and All Star for Maddux, I doubt he'll flip if Lou benches him. And I don't think Lou cares what Hendry thinks. Lou is the only one of the two with any longterm hold on his job. A new owner is going to can Hendry unless this team goes very far this year.

except maybe J. Jones if Pie plays well. I would love to see Soriano in LF, Pie in CF, and Murton in RF for the rest of the year.
