Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez, off to a torrid start with a .406 average, one homer and five RBI, was scratched from the Cubs lineup Friday because of swelling in his right wrist.

Ramirez apparently hurt his wrist originally in spring training, but the swelling had worsened. He was sent to have the hand checked by a specialist before the Cubs played the Reds at Wrigley Field Friday, but no diagnosis was available.

"He just got up this morning and had some swelling," general manager Jim Hendry said.

Asked if Ramirez did something over the past two days, when the Cubs did not play, to aggravate it, Hendry replied, "No, not that I know of."

Ramirez's place at third base would have been filled by Mark DeRosa, but he also was unavailable Friday because of back spasms. Utility infielder/outfielder Ryan Theriot started at third base and Ronny Cedeno at second.

7 games in, and our good players are disabled

this sucks. i pray to god they wont be out long. our lineup is very weak today as well.

1. A. Soriano, CF

2. R. Theriot, 3B

3. J. Jones, RF

4. D. Lee, 1B

5. M. Barrett, C

6. Floyd, LF

7. Cedeno, 2B

8. Izturis, SS

9. C. Zambrano, P

my question to lou is why the hell is jones batting 3rd! with the way soriano and theriot are struggling, i dont see us getting on base or even scoring a run today. we have too many automatic outs. soriano, theriot, jones, cedeno, izturis. the only way i think it could be worse would be if blanco was playing too. this lineup looks like a split squad game.

Fantastic...we will score 2 total runs this whole series.

We've already scored those two runs in the first inning. Hope we don't go 26 more innings without a run...

I'm not happy. The craptacular season demise has begun.

What he said. What really pisses me off is that I switched to Direct TV simply to be guaranteed Extra Innings.......Except that well

Direct TV has lots to offer besides baseball, and I can also watch the good baseball teams.

Ah what the hell, I am depressed. To those of you who say it's still early I say lots more disappointment to come.

Reliever Scott Eyre was wheeled out of the Cub clubhouse on a stretcher and taken to the hospital via ambulance for intravenous fluids after Saturday's game. He was weak after complaining of flu-like symptoms and was expected back for Sunday's game
