Here I go again basing my opinions on 1 game

4-5, pretty solid day for Cliff today. Can't argue that he hasn't earned another start

I'm not going to read all 19 pages, again. But I'm not sure a less true statement has been made in this thread. And that's saying something.

I would have said the same thing if Murton had gone 4-5. The point is, this team is having trouble scoring runs and right now, Floyd is producing more.

Here's something we can all agree on - it's probably only a matter of time till Floyd gets hurt anyway...

Yeah but Murton is 4 for 8 in his last 2 starts. Hitting something like .350 overall when he starts. So to use your arguement Murton should be starting then. Floyd had really not done well for at least a week until yesterday. The Cubs also won Murtons last 2 starts. Which until yesterday I can't remember the last game the Cubs won that Floyd started.

That's not my point. I'd prefer Murton starting over Floyd (or Jones) but it has nothing to do with his last few games or ABs. Determining that a player has "earned another start" b/c he went 4/5 is just a terrible way to run a team.

If your starter needs a day off and your back-up comes in and goes 4/5, you say "thanks man - great game." And you put him back on the bench until he's needed to PH or the starter needs another day off.

Other than Jock and Aram all our regulars hit well in that game. Looks to me like the Brewers' pitching staff had a bad day.

Soriano missed six games with a strained left hamstring. Matt Murton has been bothered by a stiff back, but Piniella said the outfielder will get some playing time soon.

Yeah, Sheets went down and they were forced into early relief.

Not that I didn't like seeing our hitters have a good day, but it's probably not a real good game to base anything off of.

I'd say thank God that he's not GM or manager, but he actually is.

That is the type of management that leads to 99 years of losing big.

When do we next face a left-handed starter?

I know where you are going with this :D

The Cubs next face a left-handed starter on Monday (Duke). Just like has been par for the course this season though, the 2 starters that the Cubs are going to miss in the Pittsburgh series are 2 of their 3 left-handers.

Actually, looking at the May schedule the team should greatly improve its percentage of left-handers they see. After Pittsburgh, they play 3 against Wash (1 possible LHP). Then 4 more against Pittsburgh (2 guaranteed games, 3 possible). Then 3 against Philly (0-2 possible). Then 4 against the Mets (1 guaranteed, 2 possible). 3 against the White Sox (0-2 possible). 3 against SD (1 possible), 3 against the Dodgers (1, possibly 2 possible if Hendrickson is still in the rotation) and 3 against the Marlins (2 possible).

With all those left-handers in just about every rotation the Cubs are going to face for the next month, they can't keep just barely avoiding them-they are going to run into a decent number of those.

In a candid assessment of the team's play before the game, Floyd admitted the Cubs were playing "tight."

"I don't think we're like overly, out-of-our-minds tight," he said. "I think we're just a little tight because of the team we have and we know we're supposed to be good. We know we're supposed to win games.

"We have a team of guys who can play every day. These guys, the Theriots and Cedenos, they deserve to play and could play for a lot of different teams. The coaches have their hands full."

The Murtons??? I'm just shocked that Cliff would forget to mention him....

He's got a bad back, remember? Everyone else had better watch out, it seems to be contagious.

Until Floyd gets hurt I expect Murt's back will serendipitously unstiffen whenever the Cubs are due to face a LHP, then just as quickly restiffen when a RHP is next.

With Murt's .297 SLG%, do you think it would help him if he spent some time in the batting cage with Izturis to get some power tips?

Isnt there a medical condition that exists from lack of muscle use?
