Goats of the game...(pick one)...

Wade Miller: 4 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, wasn't fooling anyone

Mark DeRosa: 0-4, 4 SO, 4 LOB, throwing error

Ronny Cedeno: 0-4, made the first and last out in the 4 run 6th, the final out being with the bases loaded

Scott Eyre: 1 IP, 3 ER on triple by Counsell to put the game out of reach

I would pick Cedeno. He should have been charged with that error too. No way are you going to turn a DP in that situation. Get atleast that out at 2b. Cedeno is proving that he is not a good player.

DeRosa didn't have a great game, but he worked the count admirably a couple of times. That's more than I can say for the rest of the Cubs the first couple times through the lineup.

Miller lost this game. Eyre brought in the gas can.

Cedeno was fine. He got jobbed on that call at 2B. The phantom tag is routinely called so middle infielders don't go down with knee injuries. Even the Brewers' announcers were all over that, calling it a "ticky tack call."

For those who didn't see it in the game thread, I'll post it again. Here was Capuano's line against the Cubs last year:

3 GS, 26 IP, 18 H, 0 R, 0.00 ERA. He threw two complete games with pitch counts of 91 and 97. The other outing he went 8 innings on 125 pitches.

So needless to say, the Cubs performed far better against him this year than last year. It's too bad they weren't able to get the win but it could have been a lot worse.

Miller is the reason we couldn't win this game. The offense was cold early on, but got back into it. I know Eyre's three-run inning was bad, but we were still playing catch-up then. If we have a starting pitcher who can keep things close, this offense can score. Miller put us in a six run hole. I hope to see someone else in that spot when the fifth starter's turn comes around again.

The Cubs almost have to start Miller again; and I predict they will. The only other options are to stick him in the bullpen or release him. If Miller doesn't show improvement in his next start, they will probably consider other options (including skipping the 5th spot if necessary).

The Cubs will start Miller again, he is on a short leash per se but not that short. Another start like the one tonight and they will give Guzman a start. An improved start and he gets to keep going. Lou is not gonna fool around and let someone who needs plus control to win missing his spots. He will put Guzman in there which he has said countless times how much he likes because he has the stuff to miss his spots occasionally. I personally am looking forward to it, I would like to see the 5th spot being Guzman or a strengthened Prior later on in the year.

Agreed. If you watched the play closely, the runner had every intention of taking Cedeno out. Had Cedeno left his leg planted on the bag at the time of the catch, he would be on the DL ala Todd Walker/Carlos Lee last year.

That's the main reason umpires allow the phantom tag. To prevent needless injuries.

Well, that wasn't a pretty day. When I saw the name "Capuano" I knew the Cubs weren't gonna have a good day.

Soft junk lefty tossing + Cubs offense = Usually a Loss.

its not even that, its he has been up twice (so far this year) and he needed to be clutch and he blew it twice. its not like the pitchers the brewers brought in were over powering anyone (well outside of turnbow and he was wild, we shouldve scored there as well).

Sunday was the first game he's had more than 1 AB in a game this season.

As far as not delivering in 2 chances - this is baseball, where getting on base 35% of the time is considered good.

Yeah but however the cubs did have a rally against him and took him out of the game in the 6th. That's more than you can say the last couple of years. He was scoreless against them. So that's an improvement atleast.

35 percent is great, 30 percent is good, 16 percent is what Cedeno is at.

small sample but its not like he tore it up in 2006 either

I'm not a Cedeno homer, but give the kid a chance. He has plenty of ability, especially defensively.

It was his first MLB season last year. Under Baker/Clines no less.

I don't mean to make excuses for the kid, but there are loads of quality major leaguers who had underwelming debuts. The skills are there. give him a chance.

Miller. DeRosa's Ks wouldn't have been as big if Miller actually, you know, pitched well.

most of them wouldn't have been K's had he been batting in the bottom half of the inning today. I think Eyre got one low strike before he started throwing kerosene. that's it. every other borderline pitch all day long went in the Brewers favor. DeRosa had at least one really questionable strike called on him each AB, two of them for strike three.

a quick rant about miller park

They have this cheesy ghetto music playing when prince fielder comes up to bat. on the screens or whatever they are called they have "every price has his castle". i was about to steal a bat and start bashing the computers who kept playing that crap.
