At this point, isn't service time to the Cubs rather irrelevant? I have come to the belief that he is the Cubs' 2000 version of the 1990's Mike Harkey, a heralded pitcher who got hurt and may never be the same.

Yeah, at this point, I think the organization needs to be more concerned with the cost of Prior ($4 million per year) than the service time he has left. If he's healthy, Prior's worth more than $4 million, but if he doesn't pitch one game for the Cubs, the team could have used that money towards a contributing player.

At what point do we view Mark as damaged goods? I know that people who have alleged as much around here have been met with much criticism, but at what point do you just figure he is chronically hurt and will never be reliable (whatever the cause)?

 

What's the point of releasing Prior? He's under contract and the Cubs probably can't get anyone for him until he shows he can pitch.

 

I'm putting him out of my thoughts until he starts pitching in games either in the minors or majors.

 

Where did I advocate releasing him?

 

My point is that he shouldn't sniff the majors again until he shows he can stay healthy for more than 10 days pitching at full speed.
