Tribune:

Prior continues to work out at extended spring training in Mesa, Ariz. Henry said Prior is not scheduled to see any doctors. The Cubs haven't said when he'll be able to pitch at Iowa, but his DL time could be extended if he's not ready in one week.

"If he needs another seven [days], we'll give him another seven," Hendry said. "Until he's ready to go five or six [innings]."

When he spoke to reporters in Mesa on Thursday, Prior said he was healthy and ready to go.

"Just show up and play, and that's what I'll do," he said.

But Prior took the entire 72 hours available to him before reporting to the Cubs' minor-league camp.

----You'd think such a valued 'employee' would take his job more seriously, eh?

As long as Prior reported within the mandated timeframe, I don't see any issue. He's probably not as buddy-buddy with the minor guys than his friends on the big league club, so he's likely not going out of his way to spend his free time there, which would also involve dealing with reporters more than he's probably feeling like at present.

If I were a multi-millionaire, I could think of some pretty awesome ways to spend 72 hours off work.

No reason not to take his sweet time, it's not like he's in a hurry to get back to the bigs or anything.

This is about as silly as the "Aramis didn't report until the day he was due" uproar.

Is it good when players show up early? Yeah. Is it horrible if they show up on time? I don't think so.

He may have just wanted to get his head straight after the disappointment of not making the opening day roster. Let's give him a chance and see how he behaves.

Maybe he spent the 72 hours with his family to clear his head before embarking on the make or break chapter of his career.

No, no, dude's a sissy.

Maybe he was spending that 72 hours getting mean so he could pitch better!

At least I didn't say he was getting hard

I heard he spent that 72 hours clubbing baby seals. Jerk.

See, I don't see the big deal here. There are so many people who are all like, "hey, it's not cool clubbing baby seals!!". With so many people not clubbing baby seals there's probably a lot of extra baby seals that need to be clubbed. So, in essence, Mark in just doing his part for the environment. That makes him a quality human being to me.

Wow! Never thought of it that way! Post of the day!

Yeah, but he wasn't clubbing baby seals. He was kicking puppies in their junk. He's just THAT mean...

Perhaps he's Picturing Dusty as he's clubbing and kicking. That's what I do when I'm kicking kitties.

I love how athletes are held to standards that most people themselves wouldn't hold to. If I had 72 hours to get somewhere I'm pretty sure I'd take 72 hours to get there. This is a non issue.

It depends how much you love what you're doing. I love my job, so I'm at work early and stay late. The 72 hours stuff is probably a non-issue, but if you're being watched and judged wouldn't you want to make an impression?

There could be several factors involved here that we're not aware of through the article. Witht hat being said, I'm not going to get all over him, especially if he was offered the transition time. After all, these guys are people that have lives away from baseball.

Why? Why should he have to show up early to make an impression? Make an impression on whom? The fans? The Cubs? His teamates? I just don't see how this is important.

This is such a non-issue it's almost funny.
