Who are the early names that will be worth talking about buying the Cubs?

Cuban, Colangelo, Bill Murray.....

I work at CDW and there is a rumor going around that the founder of our company Michael Krasny is looking to be the majority owner of a group to buy the Cubs. I don't know if there is any truth to this rumor.

Anyony read anything about this?

I heard that on the score. Aren't CDW's losing money. Most I know of are closing down...

CDW doesn't have any retail stores. We have our corporate headquarter up in Vernon Hills Illinois. CDW is also the fastest growing IT company in the country, who would have guessed we are second to dell at 8 billion dollars in sales compared to dells 25 million.

Wow they really got you guys loving the company over there! Glad you are able to post at work now :)

The fans probably couldn't on their own without some sort of fairly wealthy advocate to lead the effort. This advocate could be a wealthy individual, a business coalition, or the city of Chicago itself.

The City of Green Bay owns the Packers. That's basically the same as the 'fans' owning the team. The taxpayers of the city pay taxes that support, among other things, the Packers, and IIRC, they had to agree to pay a lot higher taxes to keep the team but nevertheless voted to do just that.

That's not allowed anymore. Green Bay is grandfathered in.

I think NSBB should team up and buy the Cubs.

so..

Our thought-out plan:

1. Buy the Cubs

2. Win the World Series

3. ?????

4. Profit!

Oh, I didn't realize that. Is the rule the same for NFL and MLB?

Pardon my ignorance, but how does this rule work?

as a result, the green bay packers are often thought of as the #1 franchise in all of sports.

green bay is tiny, meaning taxes have to be higher. what would a small tax hike mean to the city of chicago?

maybe it would force stupid sox fans to watch the games for a change.

There's no reason a dummy corporation couldn't buy the team, with the fans as stockholders. The CEO of the corporation would essentially be the purchaser of the team.
