Hey, can anyone explain these blackout restrictions to me? I tried watching the game on mlb.tv and they said I couldn't b/c the game was blackedout. wtf? I live in memphis tn.

I have DirecTV Extra Innings and the game is blacked out for me too. In my situation, from what I've understood, its the Reds causing the blackout. They may not want their games televised on MLB.tv either. :?

Doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I live in Iowa - I think we lead the league in blackouts - we are blacked out on 6 teams. Incredible.

This may belong in rants, but I HATE MLB's blackout rules. I'm in Bloomington, IN and am blacked out from all Cubs games. I live at least 4.5 hours from Wrigley Field and get no games besides WGN or Fox national games. Bloomington is also considered the White Sox and the Reds local market. None of their games are televised here either.

I could use my parents address in Evansville, but that wouldn't work today as they're in the Reds and Cards local market. Now, every Cardinal game is on down here, so I understand that. No Reds games are on here.

I HATE the blackout rules, they make no sense. I can't just decide to go to a Cubs game, nor is MLB.tv taking viewers from actual TV, as no games are on here. UGH!!!!

That wouldn't work either. They use the zip code associated with your ISP to determine your market.

According to this, Memphis is Cardinal, Braves, and Reds market. Looks like you're SOL.

So that means I'll never get to use MLB.TV to watch Cub games?

So just find a proxy server to mask your IP address.

Not if they're playing the Cards, Braves, or Reds.

The same thing happens to me with Astros and Rangers.

As I posted that I wondered about that. Also, how does a national wireless network assign your DNS as a national carrier? Wonder if that would work?

I guess according to the map Vance provided, living in East Tennessee I'm in Reds territory.

That makes no sense whatsoever because they're not televised in any way, shape or form and there are next to no Red fans here.

Maybe I should start my first rant, because this is silly.

Um, beam me up Scotty??

I have no idea how to do that.
