for comparison, what was the gun picking up on maddux last inning?

 

I saw 85 on one of his pitches. I've had my back to the TV for the most part.

 

if that's true then I can buy the 90-93 on Prior... if it's getting Maddux at 85-89 then the Prior readings are probably bogus

The highest I saw was 87.

I think the best thing for Prior is at least a month/4 starts or so in AAA. And if he's back figure out what to do from there. If he's back to normal make room for him (dump Miller or demote a struggling starter to the pen), or keep him there if he's still struggling.

 

I agree. This is a huge improvement over his previous starts. A few more starts and he could be ready to pitch for the Cubs.

Good outing for Prior. He's definitely improved in each of his outings. Let him pitch a couple games at AAA or extended spring training, and see how he is after that. Hopefully he keeps improving, but it was definitely good to see him pitch well today.

I have a knot in my stomach just thinking about seeing Prior pitch. How times have changed...

I am extremely pleased overall with Prior's outing today. He's still got a lot of work to do, but those last two innings felt almost like 2003.
