looks like the tennessee rotation is going to be deadly with that 1-2 punch. I agree with Raisin on those five. any chance Samardzija could get to tennessee before the ASB? And Pawelek sould stay in pepria until he prooves himself with a full season of basbeall.

Agree with Raisin.

I wouldn't be surprised at all for Samardzija to be in AA by the end of the year but I don't think there'll be any rush.

There were hints that Samardzija might even start at AA. I think most of us were surprised at the talk that he was ticketed to Daytona over Peoria. It looks like the Cubs will be aggressive with Samardzija.

Gallagher should get promoted quickly (and there is a chance he could start off at Iowa).

Samardzija is holding down a roster spot. He's going to be promoted aggressively. He signed the contract, he has to be prepared to pitch.

Gallagher needs to throw strikes whether he starts in AA or AAA. He's been on an aggressive schedule as well, and he needs to prove himself again at the next level. He pitched well at the end of the last season, but starting at AA isn't a setback; he has to get back to throwing strikes and not walking a ton of hitters. Obviously.

I agree. If Gallagher is throwing strikes and making them miss this spring, he could start the year at AAA, but it may take an injury or a poor performance from someone else to get there. The Cubs potentially have Guzman, Marshall, Mateo, Shaver, Mathes, Wells & Marmol (both of whom could also start in AA) all competing for rotation spots in Iowa. Shaver and Mathes put up decent numbers at AA last season and logged about twice as many starts there as Wells, Marmol or Gallagher. Either or both of Shaver and Mathes could be moved to the bullpen to make room, I suppose...

Good problems to have.

Agreed. And think about in a couple years when we have a few more guys ML ready, all these pitching prospects will start to pay off.

It seems to me that this is true but they will start him at Daytona with a quick promotion to AA if he has any kind of success.

I'm wondering if Pawalek will get the midseason promotion to Daytona. That would get him back on schedule.

Is Pawalek in camp yet? It will be interesting to see what type of shape he is in this year. I am hoping that he comes to ST ready to go and that somehow regains his lost velocity.

September callup for the Shark?

"Everyone talks about what a great athlete he is, but he's a class young man whose work ethic is off the charts," enthused Fleita. "You hate to put a time frame on things, but this is a guy who is so athletic and whose aptitude is so tremendous. I foresee him spending the year where he's at, but I could see a September callup, and the next thing you know he's probably in the big leagues."

By the way, that link is to a recent breakdown of some players in our system, so it's a good read.

I think a team would be more likely to invest the money in a player like the Shark if they have a good work ethic and it's nice to read that he has one. Keep pushing the bar upwards pitchers and good things are going to happen for this team.
