The thing is, he's not late unless he doesn't check in today. He'll just be the last player to check in and, jeez, somebody has to be last or else they all tied for first.

If you ain't first, you're last.

The problem is that teammates and fans do care. You may not care subjectively, but his coming to Spring Training possibly late may just add more fuel to the idea that he is lackidasical or doesn't care.

we don't know if his teammates care, and it's really inconsequential if some fans care. he's paid to hit, not show up early or look like he's really trying.

baseball is not really a game of effort so much as it's a game of skill and focus. maybe he should have plastic surgery to look like grudz, then people would like him.

Now we are just getting the point of see who can make the most ridiculous statement in order to get off the subject.

Oh hell, Son, I was high that day. That doesn't make any sense at all, you can be second, third, fourth... hell you can even be fifth.

I think we all suspect that Aramis isn't really a "nose to the girdstone" type of guy. I could be wrong but, that's the impression that I get.

What I do know is Aramis can rake. That's really all I care about. I doubt Manny is the last guy out of the weight room or the first guy at practice either. I would still love to have him on the Cubs.

As long as Aramis isn't missing anything meaningful, I am not going to lose any sleep over this.

I can't believe how ridiculous this thread is. The guy is one of our best players, he left a ton of money on the table to stay here, and people are whining and complaining that he's late to Spring Training?

Why DOES he want to put up with this crap?

Aramis arrived at camp today. They just mentioned it in passing on the Score update.

Guess it was much ado about nothing, anyway.

ARam bashers are going to have to find something else to jump on. I'm sure they'll be all over the pictures to see if he's fat or something.

Probably because he could give two craps about what people on an Internet message board think.

I hope he hustled to the dugout to get his stuff.

He'd better start checking into ST the right way from here on out. That's not how Santo playe...er, checked in.

The funny thing is that in reading through this thread, there really wasn't any of this harsh criticism of Aramis that everyone is speaking of-I think the perception is more than the reality in this case.

Other than the people implying that Aramis was lazy, out of shape and unfocused, earning the disrespect of his teamates, and maintaining the ire of the fans by signing a fat contract and showing up "late" (whihc turned out to be on time", you're right. No one said anything critical.

Other than that.

I saw one comment that he looked out of shape-which is a common thing said about at least a few players on the team all the time on this board (including in the last week)-nobody jumped all over them.

I didn't really see the other implications you're talking about-the only other comment that could be seen as remotely critical of Aramis is that people wouldn't be impressed by him if he showed up late-he didn't, and the person even said that he really just wanted to know who was there/and wasn't there and was not turning against Aramis in any way. I guess I just didn't read the same implications into things that some others did.

Maybe you just skipped it, or maybe people edited it, but there was much more negative Aramis commentary then you are leading people to believe.

I think much of the argument regarded the hypothetical "if he was late", which was premature and unwarranted,.

i think it's also worth stating that aramis is pretty much the only position player who isn't (a) competing for a starting spot (b) competing for a spot on the 25 or © coming back from an injury. he doesn't necessarily need the extra time of being "early" to get into shape or impress the new staff.

Can we now leave Ramirez alone and go back to hating Marquis and Izturis? Please!?!?!

Go back to hating Marquis and Izturis??

BRILLIANT!

I think people got spoiled on Soriano showing up early. So, just because ARam didn't show up right after Soriano, then he must be late.

The ARam bashers can stuff a sock in their mouths. The only people ARam has to answer to are his teammates, and his coaches.

That is all.
